MickyB
[hv=d=n&v=e&n=skq984haqt4dkcaj6&e=s6hk975da984ct843]266|200|Scoring: IMPThe normal auction is - 1♠:1N3♥:3♠3NT:Pass Partner leads the ♦2, playing 4ths (2nds from bad suits, low from Hxx), so you win your ace, declarer following with the three. What now and why? Does partner's standard affect your play? In case it matters, the auction against me used Gazzilli, the only real differences being that declarer has limited his hand to 7 points and he could still have a spade shortage.[/hv]
Guest Jlall
If you are returning a diamond you have to return the 8 or the 9 because rule #1 of signalling is "don''t blow a trick signalling". Since partner might have QJxx, QTxx, J7xx etc, playing low back could be very costly. I would return the 9 because it seems like the 8 denies the 9. Guest Jlall
btw, in this type of situation your partner will be guessing a lot. You might return the 9 from A9xx as well catering to QT8x with pard. You might return the 9 from A9x as well. etc. This is similar to situations on defense where you must return the ten from every holding that contains the ten. You just have to hope partner can work out what to do.
dake50
Where is trick 5? 4xD +HK is that the target? We will later be defending dummy alone. Do I need to take this tempo to attack later options? I think Cx now, maybe even Hx. Too dulled to think this thru right now.Y'all try it. pclayton
Return the 9 and do it in TEMPO.
