hrothgar
I make whatever bid is appropriate given my methods... If you tell me what methods you've agreed to I might be able to make a useful comment.

If you tell me what methods you've agreed to I might be able to make a useful comment. On that day I was playing Landy; but you may use whatver you play with your favourite P. Playing Landy I'd start with 2♣, planning to rebid 3♦.

jdonn
I'd start with double, I really really really really fear partner being weak with long clubs and passing if I bid 2♣ to show majors.
pclayton
show majors then bid diamonds Excellent plan. Shows extras and the 3rd suit.
MFA
I'd start with double, I really really really really fear partner being weak with long clubs and passing if I bid 2♣ to show majors. That is not the end of the world, I think. If he is one-suited with clubs, we don't have an attractive place anyway. 2♣ might even be best, if he has a huge bunch of them. I agree with majors + 3♦. Partner is probably not so strong, but he might have a good fit for one of our suits. This plan caters to all 3 of them.
P_Marlowe
Hi, Assuming the 1NT opener showed 15-17HCP, and since you play Landy, I would bid 2C, which for me shows only 4-4, and I will stop at the 2 level. I may miss game, ... fairly likely, else why post the question, but so be it.But sometimes, they will try to fight back and sometimes partner will be able to bid 3? on hisown, ... and if this happens, I will bid 4?, becauseI now know, I have a fit. With kind regardsMarlowe
Finch
I'd start with double, I really really really really fear partner being weak with long clubs and passing if I bid 2♣ to show majors. I agree with this. Also I'm not convinced 2C then 3D shows this many high cards, we should always be limited by our inability to double first. If they pull the double the 2C I'll cue 3C which should show extreme shortage (assuming we play sensible methods) If partner pulls the double to 2C I'll probably just bid 2H. Halo
Double. With a void club I can see that other approaches might work better, but still double it is.

mikeh
I join the landy then diamonds... and a word to those who prefer to double first: if my memory of landy is correct, this shows a hand that wants to balance 2♣ and is unable to do so due to the use of 2♣ for the majors..... in direct seat it is penalty, but in balancing it is clubs. Now, it has been years since I've played landy, so I may be wrong. If I am correct, then double is out, and so we are left with 2♣.. the main worry is that partner has a minor 2-suiter and passes. I am not worried about a club ine suiter, since with 7 clubs in dummy, I will try to pull off a dummy reversal B)
