Rain
I asked Tim some questions recently about his life and Bridge experiences. How on earth does someone get so many masterpoints so fast? Tim was the 2006 overall ACBL online masterpoints winner, and is currently leading the 2007 race comfortably. His answers didn't need much editing. It's more like a story of who Savedirish is so far. I've included editor notes at points in the story. By the way, if anyone has interesting stories to share with other BBOers, do email me and I'll post it, space/time permitting. Introducing... Savedirish :) When did you start playing Bridge?I am the oldest of 7. My family always played cards, it was our form of entertainment as there wasnt really money for other things. I learnt to play bridge at age 19 as a naval midshipman. (circa 1962). I started playing duplicate while at Manned Spacecraft Center Houston 1967 while writing Masters Thesis. [Ed: How many people have you known who's started playing earnest during college, and especially during thesis time? College drives people to Bridge.] Graduated University of Oklahoma 1966, served on active duty in Navy from 1968 to 1991, flew as Naval Flight Officer for 11years, did 2 tours in vietnam, and worked for U.S. Post Office from 1992 to 2002 as Letter Carrier. What qualities do you think contributed to your Bridge success?I play almost every day at the Escondido, Ca bridge club. Have beentheir Player of Year for the last 5 years. I think I have had success as a bridge player because of excellent memory (card counting), ability to understand distributions, aggressiveness ( I want to be on the thin edge of the razor blade), good partners. I defend well (usually). But I need to bid better. What's your all-time favourite hand:I had AKQJxxxxx AKQx -- --. I opened 7S, was doubled, and redoubled (in for a goat, go for the cow!) P had xxxx hearts, made 7Sxx. What I didn't understand was, the rest of the field was in 6S. I still don't understand it. What about non Bridge things that you like to do?We garden, have beautiful roses, hibiscus bushes, myraid flowers. will be traveling to europe this summer. I'm still surprised that I have the Ace. Liby has held it a long time, and I almost expect her to pull out a stash of points from somewhere, as has happened many times before. mike777
Ty Rain. Hope to see more of these bio's and conversations of our online players. Having lived in Carlsbad off and on during the last century maybe I even ran into him at the Vista or SD club. Now if I could only count half as good as he does online. loractrue
Tim, I was wondering why you post "novice" on your profile? Thanks, loractrue
barmar
Tim, I was wondering why you post "novice" on your profile? It's probably as accurate a rating as most of the "Expert" profiles.
Wayne_LV
I'm still surprised that I have the Ace. Liby has held it a long time, and I almost expect her to pull out a stash of points from somewhere, as has happened many times before. How does one go about transfering points from one name to another? Or is this privilige reserved for only the Ace? Wayne
Rain
Nah not reserved, but not commonly done. Points are only moved if both names are verified to be your account, and most often done when players change usernames. Email support or me and someone will verify and do it for you when free.
