gwnn
JxxxxxAKT7xxx favorable imp's first seat. 2♦ would be something else. You can bid 3♦ or nothing. Would you do something in any other seat, vulnerability, MP's, .... and another one: JQxxAJT9xxKxx What number of diamonds would you bid in which conditions. thanks
helene_t
The first one is a clear 3♦ IMHO. Would pass when vulnerable (or in 4th seat of course). Might pass in 2nd seat or at matchpoints. The second one I would open 1♦ under most conditions. Might open 3♦ in third seat favorable at IMPs. Would pass in 4th seat. jdonn
I really hate opening 3 on "normal 2 bids", partner can never judge. I would pass the first for sure, with good defense and support for both majors. I expect to be in a minority on that, but I have given this enough thought that I doubt my mind can be changed, I have seen partner do the wrong thing too many times. On the second I like 1♦, at least more than anything else.
Guest Jlall
w/r is the only time I would preempt on the first hand. Jdonn makes a good point about not opening 3 on normal 2 bids, but I would say that almost all hands that I would open 2 at r/w (like this hand) should be opened 3 w/r even if a weak 2 was available. I would bet if you asked my partners if I had 6 or 7 more often for my w/r 3 level bids they would say 6. Hand 2 is a normal 1D at all conditions. inquiry
Pass on the first one. 1♦ on teh second
kenrexford
Ditto Jlall. A "normal two-bid" is a "normal three bid" when favorable as to vulnerability and seat.
inquiry
Well, i don't preempt to the three level on the first hand because my hand is too strong in support of a major... if you preempt with this one, you might regret it.. two quick tricks and ruffing value in support should your partner have a modest 1S or 1H opening hand. Weaken it a bit, and w/r I would be more willing to try 3♦.

P_Marlowe
Hi, #1 green vs. red, I would open 3D, except in 4th seat, when I would pass, in any other situation I would pass Scoring does not matter #2 1D, if I would be in 3rd seat I may open this hand with 3D With kind regardsMarlowe
joker_gib
1) Pass 2) 1♦
brianshark
1) 3♦ would certainly tempt me. It would depend on my partnership style. But more often than not I'd probably be pre-empting with it. 2) I hate pre-empting on hands like this. I'd open 1♦ or pass depending on conditions. Free
1. Pass, because the hand is too strong for a favorable 3-level preempt (I prefer trash!). I would open 3♦ in 2nd seat, or when nobody is vulnerable.2. Clear 1♦
