TheoKole
[hv=d=s&v=n&n=skxhk10xxdaxxcj10xx&s=sa109xha9xxdkqxcqx]133|200|Scoring: MP[/hv] 1 NT -> 2 ♣ -> 2 ♥ -> 3 NT -> 4 ♠ -> 5 ♥ !!! -> all pass Lead J ♦ This is a hand I played in a local club tournament to celebrate the new year.I opened 1 NT and my partner wanted to play 3 NT despite the heart fit in order to go for a top on the board. However he was worried about his spade holding so he psyched having 4 spades with his bidding. ;) However his luck wasn't good with me having both majors :) and he had to correct 4 ♠ to 5 ♥. As you can see there really is no problem with a spade lead in 3 NT. In any case you are left to play in 5 hearts with 2 sure club losers and at least 1 trump loser. Plan your play. :) Let me add that the opps are good and will split their honors (if the QJ are together) if you play a heart from either hand. Feegle
May I digress and ask you experts out there whether this is 'fielding' a psych? If 5!H makes is there a chance of redress?
the hog
No its not fielding a psyche as 5H makes no sense after the sign off. Hmm, another devilish problem to quote Phil.
whereagles
well, pard did give you the chance of making a bulletin entry, so you should thank him ^^
SoTired
i am not quite sure this one will work on this particular hand, but i think it is called the Devil's Coup. You need trump honors split, suits to behave and u have to determine who has 3 trump and who has 2. You cash all your side suit winners and trump to shorten yourself and come down to this:[hv=n=shk10xdc&w=shjxxdc&e=sqhqxdc&s=s10ha9dc]399|300|When you lead the ♠10, if West trumps low, you overruff with the ♥10 and win the last two tricks with ♥AK. If West trumps with the ♥J, you overruff with the ♥K and finesse East for the other trump honor.[/hv]

pclayton
Your partners bidding is correct. If RHO has 4 spades and LHO has 4 clubs, I really don't see the problem. Count your tricks: 2 high spades and two spade ruffs2 high hearts3 diamonds1 club and a club ruff for a total of 11. Simple indeed ;)
TheoKole
You guys got it right, not that I had any doubt. Sorry to blow my own horn, but I was kind of proud that I was able to recognize and execute this hand. :D . Not that I would have tried it if I was in the normal 4 heart contract by the way. Thanks for the replies. Theo
