Jimmyo
I have a friend who would dearly like to get on BBOL. Unfortunatley she has a Mac and is told "Sorry, Mac users".But I hear this is in the works. How close are we/you to having this available? inquiry
My mother has a mac. The BBOFlash works on it just fine. Also, we recently installed a virtual PC thingee (sorry, don't remember right now which one) and can run the normal BBO software in a virtual windows XP environment. That also works fine. No, my mom doesn't play on the BBO, but when I am over there, I use her mac a bit, and it means I don't have to remember to take one of my laptops to log on to the gaming site. Jimmyo
Thank you Helene_t for your prompt reply on the 20th.I drove the four miles to my friend's apt. and sat in front of her Mac and tried the website address you gave.It brought up a BBOL website that only seemed to assume she was already a member as it kept asking for her I.D. name and password, which she doesn't have yet, and we couldn't find any way of getting it to accept a new registration. So we were stymied again. What we need is to get to a site that allows downloading of the basic software for the Mac; then allows her to register a new player name and password.I have also placed a phone call this morning to 866-376-9867 and a voice said he would call back - no call back as yet. Please help. Jimmyo Send me a private message here on this forum, with the ID she would like and a temporary password. I can create the account for her with that nickname and temporary password. At a later date, when you get home, you can change the temporary password to whatever she really wants to use in the normal windows based client. Of course, you all can log on as jimmyo using your name and password now, and you can do all this for yourself without me when you get home and call her with her new username and password. Jimmyo
BenThank you for your reply. You suggested sending you a private message, but I don't know how to make it private (Can't see any place to click) so here goes out in the open (she will change her password when she gets up and running anyway). The ID she has selected is K.GeeCat I told her I don't think the dot is permissible because I don't see anyone in the Main Room with a dot in their ID.So she will settle for KGeeCat (If not already taken of course). Her temporary password will be J4357M.It is my understanding that you will set up an account for her using this ID and password, and when you have done so you will post to me on this forum that it is all set. Please also tell me the exact wording of the website she and I are to type in, on her computer, when I am there, to get on your site. I am guessing that this mightbe: www.bridgebase.com/v2beta because this is the address that a lady from BBOL gave to my answering device last evening. That was all I got because she slurred a lot and talked so fast I couldn't catch her name.Lastly, I note you suggest me logging on as Jimmyo and doing some things but I must decline this idea. I'm frequently on BBOL from here at my home on my PC and I'm determined that anything to do with getting BBOL going on a Mac has to be completely separate, as it will be when we get my lady friend's Mac up and running. Well, i am not going to create an account with a public password... even a temporary one. However, i have created an account for her with a different temporary password. I have sent you a private message here on this forum where you can access the username/password. If you have trouble accessing the private message, just click the view message link at the top of this page. BTW, you are correct, periods are not allowed in user names. I took the liberty of picking canada for her home country, but i left skill, etc in empty. Edited January 24, 2008 by inquiry
Jimmyo
BenThank you for your efforts. Yesterday I was at my friend's Mac computer and using your temporary password we were able to get her going on the flash version. I must say I was somewhat disappointed. I gather the flash version is sort of a condensed version of regular BBOL and apparently is still in the Beta testing phase.A few of the problems:We were unable to change her profile, or her passwordWe didn't get the familiar Play Bridge! page with all the choices of clubs, and the big listing of table position vacancies where you can check the profiles of the host and already seated players, before signing in. Only choice appeared to be "Put me in to play, at first available table" (or similar wording) - got three beginners . .A similar problem if one wants to just kibitz - very limited choices.Net result - she became quite disenchanted, and is not going to continue the project, at least for now.Wrapping up, I suggested she really should get a new computer, this time a PC, and join the rest of the world.May I request from you:1. Let me know when the beta testing phase is complete - we might have another go.2. Put me on your list to advise me when you have completed a version for Mac computers that does everything your present PC version does.BTW, you say in your msge Jan.24: "to access a private message, just click the view message link at the top of this page." Sorry, I can't find any such designated link. ? ?Also BTW - do you have an arrangement with Hotbar, Inc. to use their emoticons/smilies? If so, I have another comment. Thanks again,J.B.Elder
barmar
Yes, BBOFlash is still very limited compared to the full version of BBO for Windows. If you want that, you should use some form of Windows emulation. On a PowerPC Mac, the only option is Microsoft Virtual PC. On an Intel Mac, you can use Apple's Boot Camp (you can boot into Windows instead of OS X), Parallels Desktop VMWare Fusion (allow running Windows within OS X), or CrossOver Mac from Codeweavers (allows many Windows applications to be run under OS X).
