matmat Posted January 20, 2008 Report Share Posted January 20, 2008 on the first one 3♦ was ridiculous 3♥ was also silly, especially since 2♥ should have been available over 1♥ to show that hand on the second one, 4♥ seems like it would be a normal opening , unfortunately N was not in a position to open; instead, they chose a totally non-forcing 3H call opposite an opening hand. quite poor. rogerclee Posted January 20, 2008 Report Share Posted January 20, 2008 1) E has a natural 2H bid over 1H. Even failing to do this, 3H is a bad bid. The only reason it works here is that his partner has both missing trumps, N does not actually have a 3D bid, and S has a crappy defensive hand. North has nothing even approximately resembling a 3D bid. He is off an ace. South has no reason to double 3H for penalty. He has a bad hand and has no business bidding anything at all. 2) Opening the E hand is okay. I think it is a style thing, but if you aggressively open, this definitely falls into that category.
