Fluffy
[hv=d=m&n=sjxxxh107dakxc10xxx&s=sqxxhaq6542dcakqx]133|200|[/hv] You declare 4♥ and get a diamond lead. After discarding 2 spades its time to handle trumps. What is the best way?.
pclayton
Cute problem. Putting clubs aside for a second, if we can hold our trump losers to 2 we are home. 3-2 and 5-0 splits don't matter. Two options: 1. Heart to Q. Wins with all K-4th onside and stiff J onside (edited: also stiff J offside) (6 cases). 2. Come to hand and play a heart to the 10. Wins KJ98, KJ96, KJ86, K, and J onside (5 cases). So, the plays are roughly equal. Since I'd like to give myself the best chance to lose one trump trick when clubs are 4-1, I think a heart to the Q is superior. cherdano
ALERT! It is MP!
han
heart to the queen also works against stiff king onside. I suspect it is the best play but I'm too lazy.
CSGibson
Low heart to the queen. If you don't take the finnesse now, you'll never get back to the board to try it again.
Free
ALERT! It is MP! Yeah, and they didn't lead ♠ or ♣... So play safe
skjaeran
ALERT! It is MP! Yeah, and they didn't lead ♠ or ♣... So play safe If all have a natural diamond lead it's wrong to play safe. Low trump to queen.
MFA
Huh? Low to the queen of course.
Codo
Huh? Low to the queen of course. But that is a "so called" finesse, you are fobidden to play a simple finesses on a forum. So finesse with this hand at the table but tell us about a trump reduction play with a late endplay against west while you write here...
