Don't know how to bid

Should one always show support with 4c at first chance, and if possible show sidesuit if 3c support with intention of supporting partner?

This is a main question on this one I think... At least this board went the wrong way for me and my partner.

as a passed hand i think it is next to mandatory to show primary support for p's suit. In this case it would have been very useful to have a fit-showing bid agreement, but barring that, I think 1♠ is a clear error (especially with the crap suit) and a 2♥, 3♥ or maybe even a 4♥ call is mandatory. I would not be opposed to a club cuebid or a club jump cuebid either.

 

edit -- isn't that sort of an odd place to play support doubles?

I would think that if partner has overcalled a major, it is almost never right to not show immediate 4-card support, especially with NF bids. I like 2S by you to be fit-showing here, but the suit is pretty bad.

 

Also, this is not really on-topic, but I would have driven to 4H with south's hand.

This would be a hard game to bid anyway.

 

First question, was 1♠ even forcing? For me, the answer would be no. How happy would you be as south to play 1♠ considering you hold such good trump support.

 

Second question, if 2♠ is a fit jump (spades plus hearts), do you really want to bid that on a jack high suit? I would be slightly tempted, but I certainly don't want partner to consider a spade lead unless that is the suit he wants to lead without me ever bidding it. So I think I probably would not be making a fit jump here, but i would surely bid 2♠ instead of 1♠ if I just had to show my spades and hearts.

 

So for me, I am going to raise hearts immediately. This hand is too good for a simple 2♥ raise, and is not good enough to force to game. I think any bid that doesn;t force to game will not get partner to bid game on his dreck of a hand... but perhaps a 2♠ fit jump and opponents push to 4♣ will let him figure out the great fit. So whatever you do, cue-bid, jordon 2NT, etc.. give it a try.

At Imps I would bid 4H and think about it later B)

 

At MPs, I prefer to show a limit raise (2NT; cue-bid; whatever your agreements are).

 

If he shuts me down, which I believe he will, I will trust his judgement and Pass. I don't think this will be a horrible result in MPs.

Hi,

 

if you have a nice side suit, it may

make sense to show it, independ

from how good your support is.

If you show a side suit and support

partner later, you say essentially, that

he should upgrade honors in your suit.

 

The main trouble is, that sometimes,

partner may not read your bid as showing

real support.

 

To the given hand:

You have a 6 card suit, openers partner

passed, so bidding 1S will work out ok

most of the time.

The suit quality is terrible, but it is a 6

carder.

The alternative, would be a 3C splinter bid.

 

The sequence was reasonable.
