Taking a stand

I don't think partner is likely to be 4=1=3=5 as he would likely double 1 initially.

I bid 2NT scrambling. I don't like defending with Axxx in trumps at the 2-level. This time we were rewarded when the overcaller bid yet again and I had no problem defending at the 3-level.

As it happens, if you chose to defend here at the 2-level, you get the magic 200. Our declarer matched his play with his bidding and went for 800.

Agree, 3136 with shaky clubs seems likely, not a 4135 or 4126.

Why would you scramble here? I can't imagine pard not having 3's here.

Because I want to give partner a choice of suits to play in. Do we really mind playing in a 6-1 club fit if his clubs are good? We do have an honor for him there.

Partner should give us diamond preference with any 5-card club suit don't you think?

Because he's a joker?

No, we know his clubs aren't *that* good as we hold the Q. But it just felt right to give him a choice of minors. Maybe that wasn't right, but just what I thought of doing at the time.

3. Passing may be the winning action, but it could also be the losing action. The opps have 8 trump (at least it appears that they do) so they are within the LAW. The question is - do we have a game available? It is possible. Partner is unlimited. We would have to take 7 tricks against 2x to beat game. And, of course, we have to take 6 tricks against 2x for passing to be right against a part score.

I am just not willing to defend against 2x with the Axxx of trump. Furthermore, communications on defense may be a problem.
