Echognome
Had plenty of interesting hands at the sectional this weekend. I will try to post the more interesting ones here. [hv=d=w&v=n&s=sxxxhktxdqtcakqxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP(1♦) - P - (P) - ?[/hv] This first hand is from the Swiss teams. What's your call? jdonn
1N seems right in balancing seat
655321
Agree with 1NT. Hand is quite good for a balancing NT, but it does let partner know approximately what you hold. If you double instead the auction may get murkier.
paulg
I'd double. This is too strong for a balancing 1NT over 1♣/♦ for me (unless prior agreement). p
P_Marlowe
2C. I dont mind 1NT, but if we belong in 3NT, partner will make a move, and if he is broke,I want to play 2C. Regarding X, I think this will endplay me, becauseI am certainly not strong enough for X followed by a 2nd bid, even if you lower the requirements forthis sequence, besides I dont even have one 4 cardmayor suit. With kind regardsMarlowe
whereagles
Prefer 2♣ here.
pclayton
1N. 'Slight' underbid compensates for our marginal diamond stop. 3N looks to be our most likely game and its important that my side play it because of the ♦ tenace. We can still get to a 5-3 major fit, however, it's doubtful we have one since pard didn't overcall.
miguelm
1NT. It is what I have plus it right-sides the contract plus it might make they think twice before they compete in 2D :)
Roupoil
2♣ for me. I voted before seeing the comments, I admit I am not used to reopen with 1SA with this type of hand, beut agruments are interesting.
Apollo81
2♣, planning on balancing with a double over 2♦
Guest Jlall
I like 1NT. That will make it harder for them if they have a fit in a major, since probably in that case opener could double 2♣ for takeout.
han
I'd double.
ArtK78
2♣. Every other call is a bigger lie. 2♣ isn't a lie at all, unless your partner is not used to you having your bid.

What about if it goes pp2d? (I'd assume the answer is no)

Echognome
This one was a bit strange. I balanced with double and after my partner bid 1♥, that was the end of the auction. My partner quietly went down 2 and we went on to the next board. I joked "you didn't have very much there did you?" And he replied "just the two count." Turns out his hand was ♠Qxx ♥xxxx ♦xxxx ♣xx Opener decided that with his balanced 19 he was worth only the one call and responder didn't respond on an A and a J.
