Feegle
[hv=d=&v=b&s=s6hakj4da985caq84]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv]All vul. IMPs. RHO deals and opens 3 Diamonds.I would appreciate some expert thoughts on this type of hand. In the cold light of day I'm (for what it's worth) leaning towards a swift PASS. At the table I counted my points and 'pass' went on the back burner, never to emerge.(Incidentally, I seem to pick up a lot of 4-4-4-1 hands on BBO). hrothgar
I think that you have two (reasonable) choices 1. Pass, planning to pass again if partner re-opens with a double2. 3N I prefer 3N
gwnn
I'd bid 3NT at the table, I just can't pass.... pd rates to be short in ♦ and will bid 3♠ on most hands we have game on... but I can't pass :)
P_Marlowe
Hi, you have two options, #1 either make a t/o X, intending to bid 3NT over 3S, to pass after a 4S bid,#2 or to bid 3NT,take your pick. With kind regardsMarlowe

helene_t
I'd sooner bid 3♥ than double, but 3N is quite clear. Second choice is pass.
pclayton
I've had some success with a 3♥ call in these situations and thats what I would do here.

bid_em_up
Pass. If partner bids 3S, then I will bid 3N. If partner manages to make a reopening double, I really think I have to give at least some consideration to playing 6C/6H (possibly even 7) before leaving the double in. There must be some play for slam in one of those suits, assuming partner has his expected values. If forced to bid initially, I would much prefer a direct 3N to either 3H or double. jmoo. jtfanclub
Since I'm extra weird, I pass NV, but bid 3♥ or 3NT V, depending on the scoring and my mood. I figure that, hey, partner's short in diamonds. If we're NV and he has 13 cards, he'll probably find a bid. Oh, and if I pass, no way do I leave in a double by P. A9xx looks like one diamond trick to me. 3♦X shouldn't go down more than 2.

whereagles
I would pass, with 3♥ as 2nd choice when I need "action".

You dont think you can score at least 1 spade ruff with this holding? And probably 2? Assuming opener has 7 diamonds, I expect their side has 6 diamond tricks and 1 or 2 outside tricks. In order to change that with ruffs, you'd have to actually ruff out their spade tricks (if they have any), which I think is unlikely. oldman5757
I'm not an expert, but my .02 is 3NT. Hamman's Rule. B)
Feegle
Thanks all.I checked what people (12 of them, Main Room) had chosen.7 for double, 2 for 3 Hearts, 2 for Pass and 1 for 3NT (me). The double seems more 'flexible' but snapped on two occasions when the doubler heard 4 Spades and didn't have bottle to pass it. Ugliness ensued!
the hog
3NT, second choice 3H. No third choice. I regard pass as poor.
