Whose Throat?

RHO, an advanced but not expert player, with a big lead in a social teamgame opens 3. You and LHO pass and your WC partner reopens with double. Whose throat are you hoping to go for, and by what means?[/hv]

OK partner balanced so 6.... that doesn't sound like a good idea to me personally. If I'm trying to see if we can play 6m then I'll start with 4 but I don't think that 4NT really precludes that contract anyways.

WTH partner balanced and people are bidding SLAM? Does the fact that the hand is being given as a problem influence people that much? This is one of the most normal 3NT bids I ever saw. Sometimes it goes down, sometimes slam makes in a minor, and none of the time does that matter since our bid is obvious.

I will play in 5m unless partner shows extras. I think this is likely to be a better spot that 3NT.

I will start with 4S, which should be a two-suiter with a spade control. I will bid 5C over partner's 4NT, and pass 5C or 5D.

I prefer 4 to 4NT because I got some interesting extras. I think 4NT should show something like an ace less and a diamond more.

HOWEVER... I'm not sure pard will understand 4 as a 2-suiter. For instance, if pard bids 4NT now, what will I understand from it?? Without agreements, 4 is gonna be a mess and I don't want to complicate a nice social bridge evening, so I'll just bid 4NT which my WC (water-closet??) pard should understand.

Very nice bidding plan.

Minor suit slams I bid on every excuse :) Here 6C/D rate to have some sort of play.

I don't think partner will have an easy time evaluating what exactly he can like/dislike by bidding 4S. By the way, shouldn't this imply a Heart fit...?

Anyway, shoot me if you must but I am bidding 5NT.

Does anyone still play 5N here as GSF in hearts?? This seems the most obvious pick-a-slam-5N ever.

Okay this is no GSF, it surely is pick a slam.

But if you have the minors and wish to play slam, why don´t you bid 4 Spade ( or 4 NT if you lack the tools) and raise pds minor?

I would take 5 NT as PICK a SLAM promising Hearts and at least one minor, because with just minors I had bid 4 Spade (or 4 NT without this tool avaiable.)
