P_Marlowe
Pass. It is more a question of "What are the alternatives?". I assume your partner was a random pickup partner? With kind regardsMarlowe
helene_t
I think it's to play. The question is if it should imply some spade tolerance. My guess is no so I would pass.
Walddk
Clubs I guess. A hand that wasn't strong enough to come in over 1♦. QxxxxxxAQJxxx 2♣ is not a great contract (virtually hopeless), but pass I will now. Roland
Mr. Dodgy
I assume your partner was a random pickup partner? Partner is a semi-regular online partner of mine, and has won multiple national seniors titles. He tends to be conservative in his bidding, but seems to be on a slight tilt this evening, perhaps enboldened by the MP scoring?

Gerben42
Weak Two in ♣ or so. I pass.
jtfanclub
I apologize in advance if my answer is nonstandard. After1♦-P-P-1♠-X--2♣ I would pass. However, after P-1♦-P-P-1♠-X-2♣ I would bid 2♦. Since I am a passed hand, I expect my partner to overcall with a good suit, regardless of points. Therefore, this shouldn't be a good suit. If I weren't a passed hand, partner might take 2♦ as some sort of game try. Since I am a passed hand, and partner can't have all that much, he should be able to figure out this is natural. If on a scrambling auction your opponents can keep you out of your suit with a 3 card opening, you should probably rethink your scramble methods. Added since I didn't see Gerben's response in time...if partner has a weak 2 in clubs, NV Imps across a passed hand, I expect him to bid 3♣ the first time. pclayton
Don't we play WJO's? Isn't AQJxxx a WJO at white for most of us at MPs? I'm inclined to put pard on 5 clubs here and stiff or doubleton spade.1=4=3=5, 1=3=4=5, 2=3=3=5, 2=4=2=5 and 2=2=4=5 all seem possible. Pard didn't redouble so I don't think he has too much there. Wouldn't 2♦ by a passed hand by natural here? Or am I too influenced byt he actual problem?
nick_s
I'm kinda surprised no one has suggested opening this hand. I wouldn't, but I think it's a close call.2♣ is to play. With a pickup partner I'd leave it in.I wish I had the kind of partnership agreements that jtfanclub and pclayton talk about.

Winstonm
Actually, with the wide range of re-opening hands and strength of the pass, it might not be unreasonable to play this sequence as Drury.
Mr. Dodgy
I'm kinda surprised no one has suggested opening this hand. I wouldn't, but I think it's a close call. I would usually open with this hand, but this partner prefers sound openings.
jdonn
Wouldn't 2♦ by a passed hand by natural here? Or am I too influenced byt he actual problem? Not at all, I play it natural by an unpassed hand too and simply function without a cuebid. It's certainly worth discussing. I would still not bid it here though, I am almost always 5-5 when I make that bid, if I can help it.
