matmat
I am wondering if there really is a need for this list. Most of the players on it have a star on BBO and you can find them that way, and I'd guess that some who don't probably prefer to stay anonymous online. pclayton
LOL, my list is about 10 times this long but I ain't sharing.

Well, if I have a better star available to kibitz... I think there have been too many stars awarded already. I don't recognize 90% of them (of those who are logged on). Also, marking them as friends lets me know when they log in etc so I can shift to their table quickly etc.

pclayton
Seriously, I think this is poor form to put these out. I know frequently these folks play under an assumed name that some of us have caught on to that don't contain stars. I'm sure they want to keep a modicum of privacy if they can. I have all of these marked as friends because I like to kib them. Many of these names are names I've picked up over the last 5 years, but its only because I've seen who they play with, and I've 'guessed' who they are, or perhaps I've been told by others who they are. What right do I have to divulge who they are, or who they might be?

Anyone with a BBO account can gain access to that information. This thread just tries to consolidate that information. If they don't want kibitzers, they can always lock the table, or log in as invisible etc. Anyway, BBO moderators can delete this entire thread if they think otherwise. Anyone with a BBO account can gain access to that information. This thread just tries to consolidate that information. Not necessarily. Dano, for instance, doesn't have his name in his profile. But I suspect everyone who cares knows his handle, since he regularly plays in heavily-kibbed games, and someone will always answer "who is smispi?". Stars are required to have their names in their profiles, which may be one of the reason some of these players prefer not to be stars. pclayton
Both the names you have for Zia and Hamman do not have stars next to them. Why do you suppose they chose names like Pete and Sunningdale? To remain anonymous. Your putting out a list of star players with their aliases is really tacky. If someone is a star, of course it will be obvious who they are. As a matter of fact star players are supoosed to put their real name on their identity. Its the nicks of the stars that dont have stars that should be private IMO.
Trumpace
So basically you are saying is that, you are allowed to mark them as friends and kibitz them, but are not allowed to disclose them here? I feel that kind of strange, but I do agree that if someone wishes to remain anonymous, we should respect that. When I posted the list, most people were offline, so I was posting from memory. A few such names have crept in. Sorry, no offense was intended. I was only trying to help... Anyway, If the mods wish to delete this thread, they are are welcome. Why do you suppose they chose names like Pete and Sunningdale? To remain anonymous. Your putting out a list of star players with their aliases is really tacky.Just as an aside, I think I remember Justin saying that Hamman uses 'pete' (which is his wife's account) because he never remembers his other password. I think this was during on the BB prep matches, IIRC. I'm not sure how I feel about Phil's overarching 'privacy' point. That said, I do understand why people would want to have some peace and quiet when they log in. The conduct of kibs at some tables is just unreal. So, with respect to Phil's concern, is there a way to (productively) recast Trumpace's question? There are certainly people who are not trying to hide who they are on BBO. Either they have stars or have their names clearly displayed. Of folks like that (thinking of Ira Chorush, etc), who do you all respect enough to want to watch/study? *Note - I'm not sure this completely skirts the issue Phil is raising, so I'm content not to get any further answers... Still, I want to keep learning and having some tips on who to learn from via people with more discernment is helpful.
pclayton
Here's my take. Anyone can log on as an invisible and conduct their business. I'm sure the Meckwells of the world do this under everyone's radar a lot. What if a star wanted to log on and just let know their friends were on? Wouldn't they sign in under an alias, so their friends know who they are? What if they didn't want to be besieged 100 times an hour for team games? I liken a list of aliases of star players to a "Map of the Homes of Hollywood Stars" that you can buy along Sunset Blvd. If you live in the community long enough, you know who lives where, but you don't exactly blab it to the general public. Gerben42
I know another one who's not on the lists : jlall ! And what is his real name? :P Phil: My list is also very long, also not sharing publicly. I guess your list is more focused on American players you may meet, I for one have half the Polish first league on mine... Maybe together we can bring out the "map of stars homes" :D Nah... BTW why hasn't anyone mentioned the obvious ones: Fred (Fred Gitelman)Brad (Brad Moss) Anyway I agree we should not post such a list online. sceptic
I happen to think if there is no star on the name you should not and have no right to post this list in the forums or any public place. IF you want to watch these people play, try Vu Graph or watch when they have thier star showing, if they dont want a big crowd watching they have the right to use an alias and do what they please just like the rest of us. but I do agree that if someone wishes to remain anonymous, we should respect that. When I posted the list I will vote this Quote of the year :P

I'm sure the Meckwells of the world do this under everyone's radar a lot. But since stars and could-be-stars-if-they-wanted tend to play with other stars, they're only really invisible if all of them are. E.g. if Meck logs in invisible and plays with Well, who is visible, anyone who goes to Well's table will see Meck.
