soldatoJ
Could BBO consider to add such a function in Table Preference that I can open a table which is only visible to my friend? Only those people who I registered them as my friend can see my table, the others cannot see it as it is normally invisible.
uday
Interesting. I will pass this on to Fred
csdenmark
Yes you can do such. Create a table, make it invisible and reserve seats for your friends. An invisible table is visible only to those inside and those who a seat has been reserved for. I regularly use this feature myself. Rain
Not everyone on your friends list is your friend though.... I don't know about you all, but people on my "friends" list is just people I want to see alerts on when they log in.. I personally feel the invisible tables are best. You can reserve them for whoever you like, whenever you like. I saw a great feature at okb though..hehe. If someone is invisible, but you have him on your friends list, AND vice versa, you can see each other. Perhaps that'll be a better solution? inquiry
Rain suggested "If someone is invisible, but you have him on your friends list, AND vice versa, you can see each other. Perhaps that'll be a better solution?" To this I say no. The reason I want to be invisible is to hide from friends... :) I mean people who aren't my friends don't really see me at all amongst the common 1000+ users logged on at one time. When I am invisible, I am here for a) a short period of time, and :) I am not available to play. Often I am at work, just logging on to watch a few hands while waiting for something. Sure people who are kibitizing the same table I am can see me.... but by being invisible, it says that I am not available to play... at least to me. That is what I use invisibility for. However, as for invisible tables, having then able to be seen by your friends, that does seem useful as an additional option... Invisible one option, visible to friends only, another option. Although in general, I am not in favor of hidding out, after all it is not in the friendly atmosphere of the site... and another pointl, none of us can hide from the yellows... :) Ben
Rain
Hi Ben, I meant, your invisible table would be invisible to most except for those whom you have on your friends list AND they have you on their friends list. These people would generally be those who consider each other "friends" Actually, upon more consideration, I think I don't like this idea as well. I like the idea of having control over who comes to my table if I choose to have it invisible for a while. I may be doing so for a reason afterall. It will be great if we can choose whoever to see us/our table. Eg, a pull down menu when you host table that lets you specify the IDs that can access it this time, rather like the private clubs....(For those too lazy to reserve seats for specific peoples...) I like suggesting more work for Fred and Uday :) Have a good day everyone! Rain
soldatoJ
My original reason for this suggest is that, sometime, I would like to play bridge with my friend only. By now, I can use others suggestion that reverse seat for friends, but it is not good enough to allow any of my friend to play or to watch at my table. Or I can say in this way that, I usually teach bridge in BBO to my students, when I open a "visible to friend", it means that I open my private teaching table and it is only available to my students to play or to watch and learn here. I know, some players don't want comment on their bridge, so I would like such function that all players at my table, both player and Kibitzers, would like to hear my comment. Also, they will know from I am opening a bridge lecture there. Anyone who would like to join my "lecture" can ask me to add them to my friend list, and I would only comment on my friend and would not "teach" others who would or not like being taught. JRG
I think there are two different issues here: 1. Allowing friends to kibitz an otherwise invisible table.I like this idea. Either of the ways suggested would suit me (a "Friend" can see it, or a selected list of members can see it). As an aside: I often use an invisible table to stop people jumping in, or to make absolutely sure of a relaxed game without worrying about kibitzers. Even with "Reserved" seats, sometimes someone manages to jump in (I'm not sure how, maybe it is a bug in the software). One thing you can do is set Permission Required, then temporarily make the table visible. Allow your friend(s) to join to kibitz, then make the table invisible again. (I know this works, I've done it.) 2. Teaching table. Why not just set up a Private Club and open a teaching table? Unless set up by an Administrator, Private Clubs only exist until the person who set it up logs off. Having a private club allows you to set a list of members - not too onerous if the list is not too long. Teaching tables are designed for what you want to do. There may be additional improvements in the future. If you want an idea of how they work, try kibitzing Shep's teaching table for a bit (schedule is posted in the News section). Deanrover
This is a good idea. Is there currently any way to set up an invisible table and regulate who can kibitz?
Dwingo
I think there are two different issues here: 1. Allowing friends to kibitz an otherwise invisible table. I only hope the Golden Stars who value their privacy dont form a clique and play in Invisible tables and deny lesser mortals like us the pleasure of kibitzing them Godwin
