you should at least bid RKC so you can stop short if pard has x QJ10xxxxxx Kx x or something

Id probably have passed

What is the rush to 6?

I agree that, if your first instinct is to bid slam, you should at least bid RKCB first.

Having said that, I also agree that I would pass 4. Most hands that make 6 would bid 2, not 4, over 1.

The only thing to be said for a jump to 6 is that you might make an unmakeable slam if partner holds:

-- QJTxxxxxxx xxx --

Considering 2 is forcing, your pickup may have a fist full of and little else. However, many pickups might have a bit extra. I think you have too much to pass, but I am not blasting to 6.

I prefer to pass the buck to PD with a cue bid and slam invite of 4 and I prefer 4 to 4NT.

Why? I don't understand the advantages of 4.... I can think of no hand on which 4 helps partner....

4N, otoh, will at least give us some useful information: I hope we play 1430 so that over the expected 5 I can bid 5 and stop in 5 if he has xx AJxxxxxx xx x or the like. He surely won't have 2 keycards, but he may have none.

If I know the person sitting across from me is even somewhat sane, I'm passing. 4H is a preempt which doesn't particularly expect to make; with my hand, he probably will, but slam is not safely in the picture.

Opening 1C seems 100% normal. It is only with very marginal 6-5 hands where I open 1S instead of 1C to stop myself from reversing. For example, Axxxx x x AJxxxx. I feel like 6-5 with 12+HCP = reverse values.

I pass. I expect partner to have something like x Jxxxxxxx xx xx and 4H is the hand's limit.

I tend to trust my pickup partners until they prove otherwise. I would hate to assume they have some strength, get set in 5H and hear a post mortem comment of, "If I was stronger, I would have bid 2H or made a negative dbl."
