5 is clearly not a serious option.

 

4NT just misrepresents the hand.

 

I'd like to pass, but I've got too much stuff.

 

So by elimination, double it is. Not very pretty, but has several ways to work.

Last time I had a hand like this I passed in tempo and partner had a balanced 12 and we went +150 :rolleyes: This hand is a little better than the one I had for offense though and we'll have some chance if partner bids 5D to make it I hope so I'll double. Passing is better than people are giving it credit for though I think.

While x is the obvious answer, it has the flaw that partner might pull to 5D, which you don't really want to deal with. By giving up on a juicy penalty, you can pass to semi-insure a plus score. I personally think that's kind of chicken and think I'll risk a double, but it's definitely not clearly wrong. Of course, opener might actually have his bid, but that never happens these days anyway.
