han
[hv=n=saqjxxhaxdaqxxc8x&s=sxh10xxdxckqj10xxxx]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Unfortunately I was in 3CL, but assume that you are declaring 5♣ from the south. The lead is the heart king. How will you play it? Although there are lots of options I think that this problem is suitable for an intermediate level player so please hide your answers experts! cnszsun
duck first ♥,they have to play two rounds of trumps, then i can try to ruff 2♠s first, if ♠K not fall, try ♦ finesse
nick_s
Duck, planning to ruff 3rd heart in dummy. They have to play two rounds of trumps to stop this. If they can't I'm home. Now play either opponent to hold Kxx ♠: A♠ ruff a spade, A♥ ruff a spade. If the K♠ doesn't drop, run the clubs playing for a very unlikely squeeze: W for K♦ and the hand holding the K♠ to have held at least 6 diamonds originally Edited because I got this wrong at the first attempt. If the contract was 4♣, you have a nice loser-on-loser play available: after the initial duck, and trump return, play A♠, Q♠ ditching a heart. The other heart will go on the J♠. Edited again: The stuff about how to play if in 4♣ is a load of crap. Must engage brain before posting... The hidden solution is wrong too: just take a diamond finesse if the spade king doesn't come down.
vuroth
Duck. I'd love to see my third heart go on dummy's 8 of clubs. Something like win the second round, cash ace of hearts, ace of spades, spade to trump honour, heart to club 8. Lose 1 club and 1 heart. kgr
What is the advantage of ducking the first ♥? Is playing ♥A followed by a small ♥ not the same?
