Do you agree ? PS in 6D how do you play the hand ?
jdonn
I think 3NT fast arrival is a bad agreement, but I would not bid this slam anyway. I think I would end in 5♦ after investigating beyond 3NT. Something like 1♦ 1NT2♥ 3♦ (gf)3♠ 3NT4♦ 5♦ looks right to me.
Fluffy
Well, north knew 100% that partner had ♠Q, and had a lot of chances to have ♦K. This means he only lacks ♣A and ♥Q or doubleton, He probably shouldn't pass 3NT. The problem is the methods wich made you preempt yourself.ç In 6♦ on a neutral heart lead, lay down ♦A, and proceed to ruff 2 hearts in dummy. Codo
I am with fluffy about the bidding, north knows about the Queen of spade. I would play ace and king of Diamonds first. IF trumps are two-two I will survive any heart split.
Winstonm
I am fairly certain I would end in 3N as well, and 6D isn't the best slam in the world, anyway - without the diamond 9-spot, it looks a little under 50% to me. My auction would be: 1D-1N2H-2N (non-forcing relay)3S-3NP

And Qxx or xx of hearts is not good enough if his partner has just 3 diamonds.
Fluffy
OP might enlighten us as to what requirements does a hand have to have to bid 1Nt or 2♦ with 3 cards. I beleive after 3NT the 3 card raise is no longer an option.
han
I don't think it is possible for responder to bid 3NT in Winston's auction. With K10xx in opener's first suit and only Q10xx responder has to support diamonds. But I doubt they'd find slam then.
benlessard
1D is unbalanced so most of the time it has 5D or+. 4441,(31)45,(40)45 are the only shape without 5D. So responder will have an easy raise to 2D with Qxx ,xx ,Kxx, Qxxxx. With Qxx,Jxx,Kxx,Qxxx its border line between 1Nt & 2D IMHO (but i know most will say its a clear cut 1Nt) Partner with sub minimum or really scrap will bid 2S slow down. Everything else is GF. 2Nt is used to protect a holding like Kx & Qx and doesnt promise stoppers in both the unbid suits its also used for hands too strong for 3Nt. 3Nt would suggest a soft hand with minimal values but enough to play game. It should denies a nice fit in D (unless no ruffingpower). I think 3Nt is right on the spot for values (maybe a bit short) Kxxx is a vgood fit and usually with this holding 3D is the bid. But with such a soft hand i can understand 3Nt. Because a 3D bid might lead overboard. What used do you reserve for a jump 3Nt in similar auction ?
