how would you bid this

Recommended Posts

I am not in love with 2, but I have seen worse. The rest is fine until overcaller passes 3. New suit at the 3-level by advancer is forcing, even if you have the agreement that 2 could have been passed. In my book 2 and 3 are both forcing.

Since this is IMPs I suggest that you support (4). 3NT is an alternative at matchpoints. You will likely end up in 5 although slam, even grand slam, can be made.

I don't consider 3 forcing if 2 is not, but I do like to play 2 as forcing and then 3 is forcing as well. S needs to force to game, and presumably he considered 2 and 3 both to be forcing. Otherwise he can start with 3 which would be the way to make a forcing shift.

I also am not fond of the 2C overcall, but there it is. 2S is F and for me so is 3D. I think the hand that bid 2C might try 3H over 3D at least this leaves a lot of room open, although not perfect by any means. Passing 3D is out of the question and I would not be ready to give up on 3N as a place to play.

I really dont like 2 with these types of hand. I have a poor suit that i dont neccessarily want lead and values in their suit.

After 1 pass pass, probably 2-3-3-3NT/4

However, i know plenty of people who do bid 2 with the north cards, and over 3 (isnt this completely forcing?) 3NT or 4 could be right.

Hi,

most likely just a matter of partnership

agreement, but at least for me 2S by Sout

is non forcing.

Depends on your agreements regarding 2-level

overcalls, but I would force to game with the

South hand.

=> A 2H cue bid is in order, after which South

will bid 3S.

I guess this issue was the reason, why the auction

died in 3D.

With kind regards

Marlowe

Let's face it; very few would be able to bid this perfecto to a slam which is quite good because of J in one hand, Q109 in the other *and* the nice intermediates in diamonds.

13 hcp outstanding, so it's not completely out of the question that a king is offside if opener has a shapely hand. Same applies for Q of course. Diamonds could also be 4-1 and spades 4-2 which will complicate matters in slam. As it is, slam is good, but it doesn't have to be.

To be fair, when I said that I'm not in love with 2, I must also confess that I might bid it myself occasionally, depending on my mood. It's a reasonable hand after all ... until it goes pass pass double, all pass.

Now I hate it!
