Opponents play SAYC.

EDIT!!!!!!!!

The auction is (1)-P-(4)-

You are vulnerable, they are not. Is this auto 5?

I guess to add something to this maybe-not-interesting question: what if the opps are playing precision? (4 is weak or strong)

yeah 5 + pass. not risk free to pass, though.. hope pard knows what he's doing.. ^^

For me, 5 and then pass and WTP ? White vs Red, we've pushed them 1 higher.

PD's double is most definately not a signal nor an invite for me to sac 6. PD should be doubling on his own hand, not mine. If he's unsure whether I bid 5 on power or playing strength or as a likely sac/possible make as here, he should pass. I don't play this as a forcing pass situation.

So, WTP ? I pass, happy to have an ace and only 7 so it may cash and hopeful that my K of may help us score another trick.

Now if I held void, KQJTxxxx, xxx,xx I'd have a decision to make after PD's double, but as it is, clear easy pass for me.

wow, I sure wouldn't...

As one who hates MP's but I've certainly played a decent ammount of it, perhaps I should never comment on a MP thread :( ...OK I've made my decision with the hand I gave that won't take a trick on defence since I think that due to my PD's initial pass 5 is a clear fav to mak, thus I pull to 6 but am ready to appologize lots if PD has 5x beaten on his own.

I hate to pull high level penalty doubles and hate even more to have my own pulled, but with my given hand, I hold something most unexpected whereas the text hand I hold something reasonably close to what PD can expect and we should be clear favs to beat 5x and yet 6 can expect little chance, IMHO.

EDIT: I now realize we are red vs white and honestly pass with the junk hand as we are usually taking only 9 tricks and going for -800 when opps make 5x. Exceptions would be vs really timid opps who wouldn't x 6 or against those who'd somehow bid 6x inspite of 5 getting X'd

Fun post. When I read it there was no 5H and no double.

Double, then 5H if necessary and then pass.

This may be a confusing post as the auction was not shown in the initial post, but for me to double the 4 bid and then free bid my suit at the 5 level would show a much better hand than what I hold here.

I can live with pass but not double followed by passing 4NT or 5D.

It's red v. white

OK the 5 bidder is Red. I wish you could edit the initial post to show the auction :) .

Anyhow..100% pass here, not expecting 6 to be close to fav and noting PD could have bid 6 himself.

Red vs White, I honestly :( favor passing with the junk hand I showed earlier

void, KQJTxxxx, xxx,xx as I expect we are taking only 9 tricks for -800 lots of the time when 5 makes.

I'm biased because I know the hand but actually I don't remember if 6 would make or not so I'm not that biased :). I think my thought would be that p calculated on Kevin having a hand like this one so she should have at least two defensive tricks, so the option is to bid 6 to make, not as a sac. We are already well placed relative to those who defend 4. So pass.

Hi,

Against opponents, who play something similar

to American Standard 5H.

Against peoble, who play Precision, I would be

more reluctant to bid 5H, most likely I will do it

anyway, but it is not clear cut.

And I would not surprised, if Pass would be the

long time winner, they got you, and thats about it.

If they bid 5S over 5H, pass from partner is certainly

forcing, and I would double.

If partner double 5S, I pass as well.

With kind regards

Marlowe

I would always bid 5, but I don't think it's "auto" To me, an automatic bid is one where there are no remotely reasonable alternative actions.
