Fluffy
I think I would bid 4♠ and then 5♥ over 5♣, but a bit biased knowing how partner would reopen, passing 4♦ is also reasonable.
nick_s
The hand could belong to anyone. I can't keep quiet here. If we have a major fit, this is a 5-loser hand. We could easily be cold for a slam. I would bid 5♦ over 4♦ expecting partner to interpret it as a two suiter. And if partner winds up doubling the opponents, I do have some defense. CSGibson
I'm bidding 4 spades, and bidding 5 hearts over 5 clubs or 5DX. I expect that bidding the first time is the only way that I can play this hand in 4 of a major, since there's no way that partner has a takeout double of diamonds without the preempt going up a notch. This hand's not going to get easier to bid at the 5 level.
sheepman
4N intending to convert 5♣ to 5♥ to show my suits might work, but pesky partners tend to bid something else cos they have lots of point and lots of clubs thinking (not unreasonably) I have ♥+♣. Suppose i'll bid 4♠ and end in a no play slam, heck I do have 2 Keycards and a void! If I did pass to start would bid 5♦ when 5♣ is doubled unless pard is a corpse. (If LHO doubles 4♠ and partner re-doubles I might start searching for a card with 4 X's on it)
Finch
If I pass the first two times, it's easy to bid 5D over 5Cx.

Partner was 1-1-3-8, that's why i thought it was freak.
Guest Jlall
4S first because I just don't think you can pass with this. What to do when 5C gets cracked is a matter of table feel, i'd probably usually run to 5H.
neilkaz
4♠ first for me and then if need be 5♥ and I don't expect to be sitting for 5♣x here in most circumstances (ie my usual adv/exp pickup games in MBC). Honestly I wouldn't dream of passing the first time. An initial 5♦ call is interesting since I don't expect to buy this hand very often in 4♠ but I'd like to have more than 1 defensive trick for 5♦. whereagles
Pass 1st round was ok to me. Can live with 4♠, though. Now 5♦.
jdonn
I have to admit I'd bid 5♦ the first round. Obviously this is a disaster when partner is 1138 ;) Obviously though on rosier days we can find slams very light in HCP this way. I mean it's not as though playing 5 of our better major rates to be more dangerous than playing 4 of a random major, and since there is no way I'm passing... benlessard
Clear pass first turn. (second turn too easy pass) Bidding 3H insufficient bid corrected to 4S is the only time ill be bidding with these kind of hands :) Bidding 4S will mostly lead to terrible slam or 5 level contracts. After the X I guess ill be running.
