6-5, come alive?

From the same event as the 'missing QJxx' thread started by Frances.

[hv=d=n&v=n&s=sa10xxxxhq9xxxdxcx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv]

As South, the auction starts Pass-Pass to you. You pass also (?), and W opens 1 (strong club, 1+ diamonds). Pass from partner, 3 from RHO, showing 8-10 and a 6 card suit.

Do you bid? And if so, what?

No

I either open 2spades or pass forever.

Hi,

I would pass the first round, but I would say that 2S is

certainly better.

Now given the vul., I pass the 2nd time. most likely the

auction will die in 3D, ... 1D was limited and they may or

may not bid 3NT, Nothing I can do, but we may end up

playing 3D, which wont lead to a disaster playing IMPs.

With kind regards

Marlowe

In 3rd seat even red vs white, I open this 2 all day long. I've gone for numbers before, but sometimes the opps mess up and 2X making when the opps are cold for 5m is a good score.

However, having passed initially, I'll not dream to serve up a fielder's choice to the opps by bidding at the 3 level now.

Just my opinion with 6 HCP .. neilkaz ..

I would open 1 in third seat all day.

Me too. Weak twos on 6-5 is a no-no IMO.

I understand, but PD is passed, we have 6 HCP and this is probably the opp's hand in a minor. Sure we can make 4 sometimes and not 4 but the opps are often on for 5m and will bid it, and just what do we then do if PD doubles think that I have more than 1 QT and 6 HCP ?

I've been buried far too many times opening light in 3rd seat to open this guy 1. I am probably in the minority but give me the K of instead of the Q and I still open 2 (I'm willing to take a shot at some preemption).

With the ace in , I will open 1 as then I have 2 QT and we have more chances to miss a making 4 after opening a weak 2.

Just my style and noting that I have not done well over the years this light in 3rd seat if opening 1.

I won't pass initially. 2 and I don't care I have a 65 or whatever.

As it went, now it's WAY more risky to bid. Opps are strong, exchanged A LOT of information and therefore action borders on recklessness and pointlessness. You've lost your timing to act, so now you have to pass forever (or seriously risk a -1100...).

Tempted by 3 - has to show 5/5 in the majors, there's no other hand on which I'd pass in 3rd then act later at this level.

I hate a 1 opening, if you bid your hearts later pard will place you on a much better hand, so if you are going to give up on showing your second suit you may as well preempt in spades.
