You open 1C. Do you bid more?

1. We're red and they're white

2. Odds are there is a strong NT opener sitting over me (Yes, the vulnerability is right for psyching, however, I'd expect that partner could scrape up a penalty double or RHO would invite if this were the case)

3. I have Spade shortness but there is no guarantee that the opponents have a fit

4. I don't have a good descriptive call available:

A. If I double, partner is going to strive to show a 4 card heart suit

B. 3 overstates my Club suit

C. 2N suggests a two suiter with Clubs and a Red Suit

I think that pass is pretty clear

Don't get me wrong: I'd love to be able to make a descriptive bid that showed this hand. However, the hand type is too rare to cater to during this auction.

Furthermore, if you are going to devote a bid to show this sort of hand, you probably want to get into the auction after the 2 rather than balancing back in.

Hi,

if I bid, it would be after 2S, at least I know,

the partner to the 1Nt overcall does not hold inv.

strength, this increases the safety level a little.

If I bid, it would be double, but it is quite unlikely

that I would make the bid, my shape and the

vulnerability emitting signals, which evoke fear in

my soul ...

With kind regards

Marlowe

I can not imagine wanting to bid with this hand again. While it is possible you have a C fit bidding carries way too much risk. Can you seriously hope to make 9 tricks when partner bids should you dble? I think also dble could easily be passed which may be a very bad result. As there is a strong case to say that you had the opportunity to bid 2S over the xfer, which clearly would be t/o.

It sounds to me like you should be happy to defend and pleased you are not going for a digit at the 3 level.

I passed twice.

Partner had 8 HCP. At other table opps bid to 3NT which made.

So this means, your partner had an close decision

as well, at least after the 1nT overcall.

Usually, he would double for penalty with 9HCP,

maybe he should have upgraded, e.g. due to a

5 card suit.

With kind regards
