2D was?

Do you play 2/1 game force or just

American Standard with 2/1 promising

a rebid, or is a 2/1 response just a

one round force?

Playing American Standard, I would try

to create a game forcing auction, showing

6 hearts, i.e. depending on your agreements either

#1 pass (forcing), followed by 3H

#2 bid 3H direct, which is forcing, because you

play good-bad 2NT by opener, ... a direct 3H

bid may even be forcing, if not playing good-bad

With kind regards

Marlowe

3 and I don´t care much about 2/1 or SAYC.

For me 3 HEart shows an extra heart and some extra strength and is game forcing. But there is no need to rush to 4 HEart. Maybe pd has a hand where 3 NT plays even better, so I give him a possibility to play that contract.

If you play that 3 Heart now is weak, I must pass and bid 3 HEart later.

Regardless of whether or not the 2 established an absolute game force, I think that a pass over 2 should be forcing.

LHO's 2 is a nuisance call. He's a passd hand. He couldn't open 1. He couldn't open 2. He's not sitting on that much. Given the crap that people intervene on these days, we might even want to defend 2 doubled. I wouldn't be suprised to find LHO sitting on some crappy 5332 with a couple Spade honors.

Give partner a 3=1=6=3 or some such such and we might easily collect +800.

I'm passing

Pass

Pass is forcing, no doubt, but what would a DBL by opener show?

What does partner show by DBL your forcing-pass?

Double by opener, instead of making

the forcing pass is penalty.

Assuming Opener passes, that says,

I am not sure, if we do better defening

or if we better look at our own contract.

If Opener removes responders double,

he shows additional strength.

In contrast double by repsonder is not

a pure penalty, just that he thinks going

after the penalty is best.

B) 3NT. Good problem. To see its solution, consider the following points:

1. Q9x in spades is almost a sure stopper if you play the hand - even when LHO has ace or king third, the suit blocks.

2. Your 16 HCP are opposite partner's advertised 10+ HCP, so the high card values for game are there.

3. All suits are stopped

4. The odds greatly favor that either partner or RHO holds the king

5. One spade, six hearts and the AK of clubs are nine likely looking tricks in 3NT. You may also have a diamond trick or two

Don't risk things getting out of control. Just bid 3NT. If pard is unusually strong or unusually weak for his bidding, then he will bid something, and you will find an escape route.

:) I don't feel very strongly about any of the possible bids. I looks like we have game, and it is going to be hard to catch them in 2 doubled if that happens to be right. Could you give us the whole hand? I am curious about what actually happened.
