Fun at IMP Pairs

Recommended Posts

Board 12 of an ACBL IMP pair event on BBO. We are having a good game. I picked up in first seat at favorable vulnerability:

[hv=d=w&v=n&s=s92h43dj42cak6542]133|100|Scoring: XIMP[/hv]

We play that a 3 opening is preemptive but guarantees AQ or AK or better. That is what I have, so I opened 3. LHO passed, and pard responded 3 - natural and forcing. I didn't have a suitable hand to raise, so I bid 3NT - it is sort of obligatory - I have to raise or bid 3NT opposite a forcing hand. It went all pass.

The opening lead was the 7, and here is what I saw:

[hv=d=w&v=n&w=s92h43dj42cak6542&e=sjt864hq2dt95cqt8]266|100|Scoring: XIMP

3-(P)-3-(P)

3NT-All Pass[/hv]

I guessed to play the Q from dummy which held. Down 2 (I could not figure out a way to make the hand).

The full hand was:

[hv=d=w&v=n&n=sk7hak8765d763cj3&w=s92h43dj42cak6542&e=sjt864hq2dt95cqt8&s=saq53hjt9dakq8c97]399|300|Scoring: XIMP[/hv]

Some people play that

(some preempt)-p-(new suit=forcing and "strong")-X is takeout of the original preempt.

This particular NS pair could have reached their 4 contract or at least 5x with relative ease had they had this agreement.

But that doesnt take away anything from the merits of your psyche :)

(3) 3

bridge is so easy when you bid your suits :P

yes but unluckily the south and East had had been switched, so your are in 3 X -4. In red.

Bridge is so easy if opps bid with insufficent values. :P

For me this hand is a little too weak for a direct call, but it is close.

I prefer Czabas method.

to be fair, it's rather hard to keep 3 to 5 tricks :)
