I will grant you I may not get to 5c game with your 14 hcp example. :( My opp may bid more. I may sac in 5clubs..who knows.

So if Kxxx,xx in the minors and out is all you need, then pds best hand must be something like:

 

AK,xx,AQxx,AKxxx, because with less you will seldom make 5 Diamond?

Or do you really believe in xx,-,AQxxx,AKxxxx and the opps just bidding 1 Heart with 17 Majors suit cards and 23 HCPS between them?

 

I still cannot construct any hand where you need to bid 3 Diamonds with f.e. xxxx,xxx, Kxxx,xx.

 

So any advice is still welcome.

As I said earlier, I do not believe partner can be 2245. Your example hand for instance seems like a normal reopening X to me.

 

If you change the hand to A xx AQxx AKxxxx then yes, I would say partner could have that hand for this auction. As far as what the opponents are doing, who knows, but my partner has reopened with 2D.

 

I also wouldnt say Kxxx of diamonds and xx of clubs is "Kxxx and out" a doubleton club on this auction is very important.
