manudude03
[hv=d=n&v=n&s=saqxxxhxdaqxxxxcx]133|100|Scoring: IMP Bidding: 1♥-2♥-Pass-2♠Pass-3♦-Pass-3♠Pass-???[/hv] This hand came up about 3 months ago so I can't remember the exact hand (but it was definately a 6-5 with 4 losers). There is no pre-defined range for how strong the hand must be to do Michael's. Is this hand worth going to 4 on considering the bidding? ps. As it was, I chickened out and lost the match as a result (16-14 against a full team of internationals, would have been some story if we won seeing we were only an intermediate team)
gwnn
Just pass. Pd knows that you have a nice hand and he stopped twice.
han
Dude, you certainly showed the values of your hand if not more, you cannot bid more than this! Our Portugese poster will probably tell you that you shouldn't trust the weak hand and just force to game. I think partner probably should have bid game, not even knowing her hand. mike777
Once again prefer to just bid my suits......I am not that worried 2D is going to be passed out.
jtfanclub
Looks to me like for partnership harmony you've got to pass. If you bid 4♠ and it goes down, I doubt your partner's going to appreciate your excuses. You could always bid 4♦ instead of 3♦. I'd sure be tempted. manudude03
I was always taught to look for the major fit. As it was, it would have been even more of a disaster if I had bid 2♦. My partner was 4-4-0-5 with 6 points (I think, the hand records are 300 miles away because I'm in uni ;) ) so unless he was able to somehow muster a 2 ♠ bid, we're stuck in the wrong contract. I did ask afterwards if I could see his hand, and immediately told him myself he should have jumped to 4♠ after my 3♦. We ended up taking 11 tricks while the other table was 4♠+1 which ended up costing us the match as I said.
jdonn
I think partner probably should have bid game, not even knowing her hand. Pre-resulter! If your pard really had a 4405 six count, he underbid grossly at his first turn, and grossly times infinity at his second turn.
manudude03
I did think he underbid the second time, it was just the debate afterwards that bothered me (He's telling me I should bid game, I'm telling him likewise). I don't blame him for only bidding 2 on the first round (Jxxx in spades and we would also do Michael's with Kxxxx xx Kxxxx x or even weaker, as I said, no pre-determined range). kenrexford
If I had a 4405 6-count, and partner bid Micahels and then forced game after I showed a bust hand, I'd bid slam, checking on the grand along the way.
manudude03
look for grand and you will probably stop in 5 (if you go by 4NT) after finding I only have 2 key cards opposite his none (his 6 points were all quacks), unless you assume I have a void (I would probably show the void after 3♠ if I had one and wanted to force game), and if he thinks I have 5, I would kill him (not literally of course). Reminds me of one time before he thought I had all 5 key cards (and the ♥Q) and took it to 7♥ even though I had already limited my hand to 12-14 (bidding started 1♣-1♥-1NT-2♦ as GF checkback). I wish I could easily forget about those things. The debate from that hand was rather funny though  Oh well, no-one's perfect (well according to one of the opps at the table of the michael's hand, her husband is :P, that's too much information, if you guess where this was then you pretty much know who it was against :P)
kenrexford
I'd expect five. ♠AKxxx ♥A ♦Axxxx ♣Ax, maybe.
manudude03
I'm nearly bidding 4nt myself with that hand (knowing the 5♣ response before it happens) and trying to find kings. A bit pushy, but stranger things have happened. At least I can say that I did start a debate between the opps on the hand before after opening on a semi-psychic weak 2 transfer which almost won us the same match. I pre-resulted a grossly times infinity hand!
neilkaz
[hv=d=n&v=n&s=saqxxxhxdaqxxxxcx]133|100|Scoring: IMP Bidding: 1♥-2♥-Pass-2♠Pass-3♦-Pass-3♠Pass-???[/hv] This hand came up about 3 months ago so I can't remember the exact hand (but it was definately a 6-5 with 4 losers). As it was, I chickened out and lost the match as a result (16-14 against a full team of internationals, would have been some story if we won seeing we were only an intermediate team) Well, you've shown a hand here with great playing strength and your PD has 6 HCP and 4 card support for your major and all he can do is to take the weak preference to 3♠ with his 2nd call !! PD should do something more than 3♠ on his 2nd call, inspite of a void in your suit. If he doesn't want to jump right to game, how about a LTTC type of invite with 3♥ ? (That's how I'd play 3♥ on this auction..I've allready prefered ♠, and not looking for 3NT when you have at least 5-5 distribution, and not yet concerned with slam..if slamish I can bid again) The only reason for you to bid 4 is that the opps are strangly out of this auction and if PD is broke, they'd certainly be in the auction. That being said, PD should have put you into game here.
P_Marlowe
Hi, pass is fine, and so is 4D. If you bid 4D, you essentially force to game, with this hand, you could do dumper things. If your partner holds a 4 card spade suitand a 6 cout, he should definitly bid 4S. With kind regardsMarlowe
skjaeran
I'm passing 3♠ here. I think I've done enough. Btw, partner might go down.
lilboyman
I would make a second Heart cue in lieu of 3 Diamonds. This tells partner I have a maxi-Michaels. With a true clunker partner can still pass and with better hands can proceed to higher levels.
fullers
Pass seems correct answer here after poor 3♠ rebid of pard. But anyway if we need a swing to win the team match, and not in an international tournament ;) , I try 4♠.
