Mbodell
P - 1♣ - P - 1♦X P - 1♣ - P - 1♦1NT P - 1♣ - P - 1♦2♣ P - 1♣ - P - 1♦2♦ P - 1♣ - P - 1♦2NT And how, if at all do these change if the 1♦ denies a 4cM (and thus implies longer ♦) and/or the 1♣ could be short? helene_t
The 2♦ bid is natural, although this cannot be made a passed hand if a weak 2♦ was available. All the others show majors (I suppose if 1♣ could be short, some would agree to play 2♣ as natural here). Notrump bids emphasize the lower unbid suit (♥) while cuebids (2♣) and dbl emphasize the higher unbid suit (♠). Also, the more bidding space a call takes away, the more offensive it is. Dbl could be 4-4, or, by an unpassed hand, a very strong one-suiter.
Guest Jlall
I play 2C/2D natural, 2N as very distributional, 1N as 5-5 not good enough to bid 2N (ie, most 5-5s), and X as t/o could be as short as 4-4.

Ditto and off course noting that we are allready passed so 1NT cannot be natural. However, there aren't too many hands where we venture 2♦ after passing if we are playing a weak 2♦ but there are some.
ArcLight
question on bididng 2♣ or 2♦ - If you are a passed hand, and pard couldn't act over 1♣, isn't it a bit risky to go to the 2 level by yourself, when the opps might not even have a fit? Yes, which is why this is a very uncommon auction.

I actually perpetrated this auction online in a BBO match a few weeks ago, except it was p p 1D p 1H. I had KQTx QJT9xx x xx I think, and even that was questionable, and I believe it was the first time I had ever seen a passed hand bid 2 of RHOs suit. I still think it's better to have that option than 5 different ways of bidding the majors as a passed hand.
