jchiu
Playing a 2/1 style where third-seat openers may be shaded slightly even at unfavourable vulernability, you pick up [hv=d=s&v=n&s=skqxhxdj87xca109xx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] The auction has gone Pass Pass 1♦ 3♥???? han
Good one. I'd double.
mike777
:) Double or cuebid on these tough problems always should get you some points in the bridge poll...double here. :)
jdonn
4♦, not going to outsmart myself. Double has ways to work, and ways to go horribly wrong. But my bottom line is even if partner did bid 3NT (I assume this is the main reason to double) I would hardly be confident it wasn't going down a lot. vang
double. part may pass, bid 3NT (which i'll pass) or bid 3S after which i'll "retreat" to 4D. or bid 4C ;-)
barmar
Should you really pull 3♠? Your hand might play OK in a Moysian, because any ruffs will be in the short hand (although ruffing with an honor could be a problem). The big problem would be if partner bid HIS 3-card ♠ suit, hoping that you have a 5-card suit or that the 4-3 fit will play OK.
whereagles
Dbl too, but, if pard can't play cards, 4♦.
skjaeran
Very close between double and 4♦ - not sure what I'd chose at the table.
ArtK78
I remember a hand like this one from a Swiss match many years ago. I held the opponents' cards, and we played in 3♥ down one when the hand like the one shown passed. It appeared that the opponents could not make a game, as they had no heart stopper, their spades were 3-3 and they could not make 5 of a minor. However, at the other table, my teammate holding this type of hand doubled. His partner made the imaginative bid of 4♠ on a three card suit. So they played 4♠ on a 3-3 fit. And, while it was beatable if you knew they were in a 3-3 fit, but the time that became known my teammates had scored up 10 trick! Double is not unreasonable on these cards, and it is hard to come up with any alternative than pass.

pclayton
I like double. 4♦ is somewhat nullo.
helene_t
Bergen writes that a negative double at the 3-level is primarily looking for 3NT. It does not imply spades.

jchiu
As Justin hoped for, it goes swish ... Now you are defending 3♥x - your lead?

You mean you wouldn't bid 4C fit showing?? :)
Yogeshdg
Dont bother wasting time and effort with x or any other bid. If you and your partner have agreed to play short club bid 5♦. If you dont know your pd x.
