Some people are in 6S some are in 7. What do you think the best line is in 6S and what do you think the best line is in 7S? Opps were silent throughout the auction. jonottawa
Obviously the line in both contracts will be the same, since it's matchpoints. Nobody would ever play to make 6 here. Looks normal to play a ♠ up, ruff a ♣ low (hoping to pick up something from RHO if he's not an expert) and ♠ up.
nbailey
Sorry meant to say (this was the whole point and I forgot to put it in the OP) - east shows out on first round of spades. Maybe doesnt matter but now you may have problems if clubs dont break kindly
awm
Seems clear to play a spade up. In general you're hoping for trumps 3-1 and clubs 4-2. When trumps go 4-0: You can't make by ruffing your losers in dummy, since this will eliminate dummy's high spades, eventually giving you spade losers. My line would be: 7♠: Ruff club, return to dummy, ruff club, pull trumps, hope clubs are 3-3 (or the king fell doubleton). Note that if clubs are Kxxx on your right, you can't pick up the suit by playing the ♣Q at trick three as RHO will simply follow low, and you still need to ruff clubs twice to pick up the suit (LHO will overruff you on the second ruff). 6♠: Let the club queen ride. If it wins, ruff club, return to dummy, ruff another club -- even if LHO overruffs you can win his return, pull trump ending in dummy, and run clubs. If club queen loses to LHO, you win his return, trump to dummy, ruff club, pull trumps, etc. If RHO covers the queen, ruff it, trump to dummy, ruff club, etc. This works any time clubs are 4-2 or better.
