[[The poster is a TD, who I presume doesn't understand that to report suspected cheating, he needs to turn the potential cheater into the BBO, and not air the hands publically. I was able to find the hands shown and thus the "suspected" player he was commenting on in less than 3 minutes using just normal BBO sites. We simply do NOT allow such allegations within the forum where the ID of the suspected player can be so easily determined. Such public posting risk the ability to post in the forum, and if you are a TD, your ability to run Tournaments.

Having said that, I will treat these hands as if they were turned in properly, and an appropriate investigation will be undertaken. ]]

Perhaps it's fair to state that South knows little about bridge. Nothing wrong with that, but if you are suggesting that there is something fishy (cheating or the like), I do not agree.

South is simply a poor bridge player.

I apologize for not following the proper procedure. To mitigate my crime, I can only say this: I did submit a board a team had complained about (the one that got me started down this road). Here was the reply:

Hi,

We understand your concern, but cheating is a very serious allegation. Please provide at least 10 suspicious boards to back up your claims.

You can find boards easily by using this free tool.

http://online.bridgebase.com/myhands/index.php

Or, you may have subscribed to a pay tool like Bridge Browser that provides more details about played boards.

In either case, please try to gather these boards before emailing your suspicion again.

Thank you

I replied I have neither time, inclination, or ability to determine if TEN boards are suspicious.

I do totally agree that one shouldn't bandy about these allegations, and in three years of TDing I have never before submitted a board which I considered suspicious. (To be clear, all my tourneys are free so why would anyone even bother exchanging UI?) But this one did make me go hmmm, so I thought well, let's see what the assembled wisdom says.

As inquiry says, it's easy to reverse engineer which boards were suspicious, and so my posting amounts to a public accusation of cheating. And I wish to publicly apologize for that. I very honestly have no clear evidence that there was cheating, there were three sequences I found unusual but that's much more likely to be a reflection of my ignorance about certain bidding systems than it is any suggestion of wrongdoing.

So mea culpa to all concerned. Inquiry has very gently written me to remind me of the proper procedures, and has deleted my post before it could cause harm to the innocent parties, and I thank him for both.

Meh, procedures schmecedures.

I don't know if he's still doing it, so I won't mention his name. But we have an excellent investigator online. Let me talk to him tomorrow and see if he'll take your case. :)
