I offered a post-mortem afterwards and my partner (bridgeboy) quickly seized the opportunity to correct my inaccurate analysis. [hv=n=sj2ha1042dk4cqj1032&s=sa75hk87da976ca95]133|200|[/hv] Matchpoints - 3NT from South (auction, 1N-3N) You are playing from the south hand, and you get the 6 of hearts led, opponents are leading 4th best (yes that was ME that made this awful lead). I make you win the H10 in dummy (very nice play - assuming 6 is authentic 4th best) and take losing club finesse. Your LHO (me again) quickly switched to SK and you duck, and continues SQ. If West has no ♠ higher than your ♠7 you have a proven double squeeze. If not, if West has ♦QT(x) or ♦JT(x), you ahve compound squeeze that evolves into a double squeeze if West gives up his ♠ quard or a ♦-quard squeeze (exposing his partenr to a ♦ hook if he throws away his ♦s. The two lines you play for follow similar lines. IF West has either... [hv=s=skq9hqjxxdqtxckxx]133|100|[/hv], or [hv=s=skq9hqjxxdqtxckxx]133|100|[/hv] You make. In second case, there is a already a double squeeze. In the first case, West has to throw all his ♦ to keep off the double squeeze from teh second example, but exposes his partner's ♦ stopper to a hook. The one hand type that doesn't work is something like this....[hv=s=skq9hqjxxdqtxckxx]133|100|[/hv] West keep his ♠9 and thows all his ♦'s away, holding you to the 10 tricks you had when the ♥ ten held. I assume everyone can work out the double squeeze, so let's look at the compound squeeze with the quard squeeze threat. Win second ♠ and run all but one club. The ending will be the following when last ♣ is played....[hv=n=shaxxdkxcx&w=s9hqjxdqtc&e=sthxdjxxxc&s=sxhkxda9xc]399|300|♣from north EAST throw ♦, South a ♥ and west?[/hv] What ever West throws, play a ♥ to King, ♦ to dummy. If West had thrown ♥ both dummy's ♥ are good. If he threw a ♠, dummy last ♥ squeezes EAST in ♦ and ♠ (simple squeeze). But if WEST had thrown a ♦, then ♥King provides parking place for little ♠ in South, and then ♦ to ♦A9 through East's ♦Jx (or Qx or Tx... all of which requires west to have any two cards of the ♦QJT combination). I can write down many hands were the squeeze will work, but i can also write down as many hands were it don't work, so I will run my ♣, and watch my opps get restless.
