kenrexford
[hv=n=sj10872hkq83dak109c&s=sa9h754dj42cakj73]133|200|[/hv] South declares 3NT after: 1♣(could be short)-P-1♠-P-1NT-P-3♥-P-3NT-all pass The lead is a club into the AKJxx, winning the Jack (I assume). Now what? I'm not all that positive that my line was right, but it was repeated and was the best result among normal folks at the club. Rossoneri
6 top tricks...possibility to develop 1 in diamonds and 1 in hearts so the last one must come from spades. Play off A and 9 of ♠ and use diamonds as an entry to run another spade?
Codo
In your line you set up the spades but unluckily you will never be able to cash the clubs, because you won´t reach your hand again (Okay with some luck in diamonds, but...) I would try a diamond to the ten. If this wins, I hope for 4 diamond tricks and play the King of Heart to develop the ninth. If this finesse looses, I have 3 Diamond tricks and communication. Lets say, they continue clubs, then I will try a heart to the King, return to hand in diamond and play another heart up. This looses whenever te Hearts are 4-2 with the ace to my right and the diamond finesse not working, or if rho was hot enough to duck in diamond from Qxxx and a bad heart layout. So: ♦ to A, ♥K, ♠ to A, ♣AK, ♦J... Steven
kenrexford
One of the difficulties is that you have to make an uncomfortable pitch at trick one. And you suspect that it gets worse.
Codo
One of the difficulties is that you have to make an uncomfortable pitch at trick one. And you suspect that it gets worse. I have no club.I want to take 4 Diamond tricks.I want to have the possibility to get 3 Heart tricks. So I pitch a ...?And if I loose trick two and they return a club, I will discard another one. kenrexford
I won the club and hooked the diamond 9, retaining the diamond Jack because I could not decide whether I wanted it in my hand, wanted it cleared away from my hand, or what. (I had pitched a heart.) The finesse lost. On a club back, I had some difficulties but pitched a spade. I crossed to dummy and finessed the spade 9, hoping to catch HH to my right but losing to an honor. A heart came back, Queen-Ace, and a club back (pitching the second small heart). Clubs cleared, I tried the spade Ace, hoping for Hx to my right or HH tight to my left -- nothing but air. A diamond to dummy and spade out, hoping to catch RHO with the second top spade (got that) and with clubs 5-3 (clubs were 4-4, down one). This seemed reasonable, but I had lingering doubts. Hearts were 4L/AxR. CLubs 4-4. I went down but was wondering if any alternative seems better. (Rome may be 3NT-1)

You should end up scoring 4 clubs, 3 diamonds, 1 heart and 1 spade.
pclayton
I would pitch a heart not a spade at T1. The communcations on this hand really blow. My first reaction was A♠, ♠, but it seems they can board lock me and possibly cut me off from my clubs. How about a low spade at T2 away from A9? If a heart comes back and loses to the Ace on my right, I think I need the diamond finesse. If a club comes back and I think clubs are 4-4, I'll run for daylight, A♠, the last club, diamond to Ace, knock out spade, lose club, lose A♥..3♠+1♥+2♦+3♣'s. On the actual layout I think I'm down as well.
Halo
I think diamond to the nine is a given. Duck the club return? I've read the thread. Seems the best option, hope I would find it in real life. You have to sacrifice something, and I think it is best to sacrifrice the spade possibilities. Fluffy
discard a heart and play low spade at trick 1, can make 3♠+1♥+2♦+3♣ or alternativelly 1♠+1♥+4♦+3♣
