pclayton
This is from the A/X Open pairs on Saturday in Los Angeles. 'Tired' bridge can sometimes produce some strange and funny results. You had a fair 1st session which out you into contention, but some bad boards have put you our of contention for the event. [hv=d=s&v=n&n=sq62hk7d9642c9872&s=sak97haq62dkckj64]133|200|Scoring: MP[/hv]You open 2N and pard puts you in 3. LHO leads the ♦J, 2, 8 (encouraging), K LHO took a long time to play to T1. It seemed he didn't want to unblock, or was maintaining communications with his partner. Hard to tell. Right or wrong, you go after spades, A, x, x, x and then the 7 to the Q (LHO following with the 10). You figure the spade hook should work, so you play another spade and finesse the 9 which loses to the Jack. Ooops. You didn't see RHO's card (it was a heart) and lose a strange trick to RHO's Jack. You quietly apologize to pard. LHO returns a spade and now RHO starts gnashing his teeth. He finally pitches the ♦Q (!??). Now wide awake, you put RHO on xx, Jxxxx, AQx, QTx. ♥ to board, club finesse (LHO now makes the final error in this tragedy of the ♦10 (!) to her partners stiff ace. You can now give up a club for 3♠, 3♥, 1♦ and 2♣'s. RHO starts in on you about your 2N opening. You just smile :P
