Abbreviations: HSoENAoAD means Homo Sapiens of European, Northern African or Western Asian Decent. HSoSSAA means Homo Sapiens of Sub-Saharan African Decent. (Wasn't sure which familiar terms are appropriate at the moment so I used the value-neutral terms).

Staring:

W: White business traveler

B: Black business traveler

R: Hotel receptionist

P: Painter working at a construction site

C: Train conductor

W arrives at a hotel and asks for a room.

R: "Here is your room key, sir. Have a nice stay".

Five minutes later, B arrives.

R: "I'm sorry sir, this is a white-only hotel. I can't help you. I'm sorry about that".

B walks to a construction site down the road, where he finds P, chalking a wall.

B: "Please sir, I'm in desperate need of chalk. Can I have some of yours?"

P: "Of course, sir. Help yourself".

B smears chalk in his face and returns to the hotel.

R: "Welcome sir, here is your room key. Have a nice stay".

B: "Thank you. Oh, one more thing. I need to catch the first train for the congress center tomorrow morning. Could you wake me up?"

R: "Of course, sir. No problem."

Next morning, the wake-up call:

R: "Good morning, sir. Time to get up. Your train departs at 7h50 from platform 3 at the central station".

The business traveler catches the train and takes a seat. After the train has set off, C arrives.

C: "I'm sorry sir, this is a black-only train. You will have to leave at the first stop. Sorry about that".

The business traveler sees the train restroom and start rubbing the chalk off his face. But no matter how hard he rubs, his face stays white. WTF?

Then he realizes that the receptionist woke up the wrong business traveler.

I think you have segregated people into two main steroetypes and you should be ashamed of yourself Helene

Agree with that. Not sure how to modify the poll to avoid that issue. Maybe a story about a bunch of people with varying hair curvature, skin reflection coefficient, lip thickness etc without any two being similar, would be better.

I know the same joke in a different context. John walks on one side of the river and thinks, hey, isn't that Bill over there? Let me not wave because it might not actually be him. Bill on the other side thinks hey, that guy looks a lot like John. Hmm, I might look silly if I wave and it isn't!

They get to a bridge and cross, turns out it's neither!

Anyway, I'm wondering what W, B, R, P and C were staring at.
