It was NOT 'wrong'. It didn't work. A worse lead would have worked.

I appreciate that you probably did not mean that you now think your lead was wrong, but the fact is that results like this tend to stick in one's mind for a while. And they can distort your thinking. Let's say you pick up a similar hand in a similar auction next week: you may find yourself thinking back to this board and choosing to lead your stiff. Heck, it might even work! That doesn't make it 'right'.

Bridge is a game of percentages, which means that the best play or bid will only be more effective than the second or third best some of the time. You can drive yourself crazy by trying to assess correct single-dummy play from individual double dummy hands

Hmm. I perfectly understand why all lead a trump here. But I'm not so sure that's as obvious as all seem to think. Our spade suit isn't very powerful - it would be much more obvious to lead a trump with say AJ9xx in spades. As it is I think it's a close decision between a trump and the singleton diamond. I'd probably lead a trump more often than diamond here myself. But I don't think it's as clear as all seem to think. Btw - double is pretty outlandish.

Thanks, wrong wording on my part. I was in doubt whether trump lead was right since it cost a bunch of imps in bbo main. The others leaders against 4H didnt look at the same bidding though. Sometimes there was a club bid/opening or responder jumped to 4H.
