awm
Five points, but you get to count 1 for each trump beyond 3, 3 for a singleton, and 5 for a void? So... zero points?

Guest Jlall
Not just that, you can jump 3 levels with 0 points!
helene_t
Not just that, you can jump 3 levels with 0 points! That is a question of agreement, I would say. In my IRL partnerships, partner would not expect any HCPs for a jump to the 3-level (or 4-level), but if having agreed limit raises I'm not so sure. Might work out well but if it doesn't I may have to apology to p.
P_Marlowe
?min points needed to respond to partners 1 major, with 5 trumps&singlton Hi, First, I would recomment for the near future, that you ask your question in the Beginner/Intermediate Forum, but back to your question: To respond you need 6HCP, to raise your partnerssuit you need to be sure the partnership has a 8-card fit,i.e. 3 cards. Having said that, it is a good sign, that you wantto respond with 5 card support and a shortage. You can say to yourself, I will lie to my partner,I dont have the promised 6HCP - but I have compensation, I have add. trumps and a ruffing feature, those two things should be enough toproduce at least 2 tricks, and what can partnerexpect more from a hand with 6HCP and support. With kind regardsMarlowe PS: Awm gave you a method to translate the featureof your hand to the point scale, you can use this method, but you dont have to, just ask yourself, do you havean excuse to "lie".I also did not specify, what to bid, without any specialagreements, just make single raise. Some player would make a jump raise to the 3 levelor to the 4 Level, but this needs to be agreed on, andif you dont have this agreement (a good one), make asingle raise, it wont mislead partner.
