I don't have much experience with this, although I play it in several partnerships...

You hold:

[hv=d=w&v=b&s=sa5ht3dj852ckj972]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv]

The auction starts:

2* - 4* - 4 - ?

2 = 10-13, 5+, unbalanced

4 = leaping Michael's

What's your plan?

Would a pass by me really be forcing? While we are in a force through 4, I don't understand why we would be in a force over 4. If a FP would apply, then passing and pulling has a lot of appeal.

Note that LHO's 2 is Fantunes-style, not weak.

My first reaction was 6, but my LM calls are pretty robust I admit.

There is a lot to be said for bidding 6. On a spade lead, it could easily be a claim, and it may be a claim on any lead. Partner could hold something like:

x

AQJTx

Ax

AQxxx

He cannot have too much less than this - he did commit the hand to the four/five level depending on which suit you fit.

4NT - 6 ace RKCB - might be the right way to go. Partner might suprise you by showing all of the missing key cards, in which case you can make another ask and try for 7. 7 will be a claim if you add the K to the example hand above, or a very good contract if you change the hand to

x

AKxxxx

A

AQxxx

All of these hands are consistent with the 4 call.

I bid 6. Partner's hand was:

[hv=s=s63hakqj5dcaqt843]133|100|[/hv]

7 is an easy make, but apparently nobody is looking for it... Most aren't even looking for slam! Afterwards I though 5 may be a better bid (at least to get to 7).

I've seen the hands but I guess that, in isolation, the 4 bid shows something like 8 to 10 playing tricks. So, unless pard has a complete max (as he had), 11 tricks should be the limit. Since I seem to have no slam try agreement over 4, I would just bid the routine 5.
