Guest Jlall
Txx x AQxx KQxxx. 1C by partner, 4H overcall to you. Red/white imps. If you X and partner bids 4S what is your plan?
helene_t
I'll bid 5♣ immediately.
cnszsun
Is it likely for partner to bid 4♠ with only 3 cards? If not, then i think i would like to play 4♠.
Fluffy
I won't play with 7 cards when an oponent has a 4 level pre. 5♣ looks clear after double.
Codo
We need a little bid for slam, so 5 Club direct is enough for ne at imps red/white.
kenrexford
I doubt that partner is electing to declare 4♠ with three cards and heart length. So, I'll wish him luck and pass. He will find the Scissors Coup if he needs that.
keylime
I bid 4NT, G/B. I have a decent hand for pard, and a better raise than 5♣ direct.
Edmunte1
I'll bid 5♣. Not enough for 4NT. I don't like dbl
bid_em_up
6♣, after all, it is late night and I've probably had a few too many.
jdonn
I double hoping for the pass and planning to pull 4♠ to 5♣. The 4♠ bid in itself would imply club length, as if partner was 4333 I'm sure he would tend to pass.
pclayton
If I were more balanced, I'd double, converting a 4♠ call to 5♣. Here, my values look more offensive than defensive. This may not make opposite a weak NT with heart wastage, but otherwise I think it we'll have a shot. 5♣ might induce a 5♥ call on my left as well, something the double / 5♣ will never get. han
I would have bid 5C right away but now that I give it more though, if partner is balanced (most likely) then we should probably defend 4H. Nothing really bad can happen if partner pulls the double so I'd double and pull to 5C.
hatchett
Agree with the initial double, we probably want to defend if partner has a weak NT. Now I bid 5♣
Echognome
I'm going to start with double. The tougher question is whether I want to pull 4♠. The upside of sticking is that ♥ ruffs are coming in the short-trump hand. The downside is that spades may break foul given the high-level preempt. Heck, it's late night. I'll double and stick. Guest Jlall
Well it made. 4S would have been an inferior spot.

pclayton
Partner had KJ9x xx KJx A9xx. Thats a pretty marginal 4♠ call, don't you think? Isn't passing 4♥ x'd warranted with this soft 4=2=3=4?

Isn't passing 4♥ x'd warranted with this soft 4=2=3=4? I don't think so (and what makes it soft? It has A K K with the jacks both support by a higher honor, and the 9 of each long suit.) The spades have some solidity and you have just xx of hearts. I would bid 4♠.

OK, it isn't soft, but it isn't exactly offensive with no known fit, and the death holding in their suit. But I'll stay open-minded about this one.
