Guest Jlall
I feel like splintering will get us too high too often so I'd just bid 4H (yes this will get us too low sometimes).
mike777
J9xxxQ9xxxAxx--- p opens 1H.opps stay quiet. you are an unpassed hand. what is your call? If you play full Bergen this is a 4d raise. 5 trumps, 1 to 1.5 outside tricks, less than ten hcp.
han
It's quite good for 4H but I don't have another bid to describe this hand. So 4H it is.

Exactly. This is the perfect hand for 3NT - good raise to 4♥. Not playing this, I would probably make a mixed raise (3♣ the way I play it) and then raise to 4♥ if partner bids 3♥. If partner bids 4♥ over the mixed raise, I pass and hope that I don't have too much.
skjaeran
This is very close between 4♥ and 4♣ (void in my methods).I think I'd bid 4♥ most of the time, but it's definitely a maximum hand for that. I think 4♣ gets us too high more often than we stop short after 4♥.
jdonn
I bid 4♥ as (clearly?) the best bid tactically, accepting the occasional missed slam.
pclayton
4♥. Echo the views about the useful 3N gadget, which is more valuable than 3N being a balanced 13-15 or 15-17, or something splinter-esque.
whereagles
4♥, willing to give up on slam.
Fluffy
on my system I'd bid 1♠ (forcing 1NT) then 4♥.
whereagles
Gonzalo, if there's something the other thread showed me, is that such a tactics of "1NT + supp later" is a loser in the long run. I know where it comes from, but I'm now convinced it is theoretically UNSOUND.
gwnn
4♥. the plan is to compensate this missed slam by bidding to a 27 hcp 6NT next board.

I don't claim it to be the best at all, but matmat asked what's your raise, and nowadys it still is forcing NT
joker_gib
4♥ seems reasonable. What ? I've missed slam. Next please... :P
Free
4♥, I play 3♠ as 9-11 splinter, but I don't have that... You can hardly count extra points for shortness when defining a splinter, can you? :P
whereagles
void counts as 4 extra pts for splintering purposes :P (as in, you no longer need pard's ace to have 0 losers in the suit.. lol)
