RHO opens 1, and you decide the best choice is 1NT, showing 5+ and 4M, about 9-14 hcp.

LHO instantly doubles. This is passed around to you and you bid 2. LHO instantly doubles. Partner bids 2, pass or correct, and RHO instantly doubles.

Sure enough, you bid 2 and, after LHO and partner passing rather smoothly, RHO slowly doubles, ending the auction.

1-1NT*-X-p

p-2-X-2

p-2-p-p

..X-end

LHO leads the Queen of hearts. Plan the play.

(yes, the proper way of handling X by opps is XX=, 2m=, we agreed now:P)

The first thing I would do is to give up playing Raptor. Your partner, (cho), clearly does not understand the convention. On the bidding at your table I would have passed pd's 2H.

I play HA and ruff a H and then a low S to the T. I suspect S layout to be Hx on my left.

From the tempo of the auction, I'd say LHO is 2=4=3=4 and RHO is 3=4=5=1.

I haven't worked out how all of the play will proceed, but the general theme to the hand appears to be A, . I imagine I'll be tapped in hand a few times with hearts, but I have late entries with the A and the K.

Ron puts it somewhat bold (surprise) but basically I agree with him. I suppose "standard" is (in North's position):

pass = no clear direction, we might as well play 1NT

rdbl = I smell blood

2 = to play

2 = show you major

2M = to play

I suppose a lot of other methods are playable as well. Anyway, p's pass followed by 2 would be undiscussed in my partnership but certainly not p/c since a p/c hand would have acted immediately over 1N. My guess is that it shows a 3541, giving you a choice.
