karlson
I agree that the squeeze doesn't work, but there's an endplay. Cash 1 diamond, play 3 rounds of hearts, and east is toast (low club sets up a simple squeeze against him in the blacks). It's the kind of thing you might actually stumble into accidentally. Many commentators were suggesting ducking the opening lead, and I don't see how to make it after that.
Hanoi5
No squeeze develops. I'll check my love's squeeze book to see if there is a theoretical reason.
karlson
I will admit to now seeing the winning squeeze line, lest people either give me too much credit and don't look for it (yeah right), or think I'm a stubborn idiot for not considering it further. matmat
it's probably a double dummy line (I had an inkling but to flesh out the details had to resort to gib :) )if you win the first trick (this is the line karlson mentioned):♥Q lead taken ♦ A,K noting east shows out♥ won♥ x exiteast is now endplayed. if he exits a spade we get 3 spades, 4 hearts, 3 diamonds and 2 clubsif he exits a club, we get 2 spades, 4 hearts, 3 diamonds and 4 clubs, as the spots lie favorably. now suppose we duck the opening lead♥Q ducked♦ exit by east, safest♦ cashed, east shows out♥ A,K,T (pitching two clubs and a spade)♣ to king♦ Q, pitching spade ♠ to K [hv=n=sjh7dcat&w=shdj9cq9&e=sqthdcj5&s=sa8hd8c8]399|300|[/hv]♥ 7. east needs to pitch a club here, otherwise spades set up and we make, west can, for now, just pitch a ♦ (we throw the ♠8)♠ to ace. now west is squeezed. what's this called anyway? non-simultaneous double squeeze? jtfanclub
Having lost 1 heart early, looks easy to get into this end position.... [hv=n=sj6h6dct3&w=shdj97cq9&e=sqt9hdcj5&s=sa8hd8ck8]399|300|[/hv] I don't see a squeeze here. I must be missing something.
inquiry
fairly straight forward double squeeze after west shows out in spades and east in diamonds. the double threat is clubs. This assumes you duck a heart while maintaining control for 4 heart winners and time you entries. Or if you cash heart AK and duck a heart, EAST is endplayed and on the club return it becomes either a simple hook (if he returns teh club jack) or a simple black suit squeeze on east (if he returns a small club)

How do we get 4 ♣ tricks? In any case you need 3 only. :) and your 2nd line works .After first 5 tricks are played you seem to reach the same position. bid_em_up
if he exits a club, we get 2 spades, 4 hearts, 3 diamonds and 4 clubs, as the spots lie favorably.squeeze? Must be too early in the morning for me, how do we get 4 clubs if East exits a small club? Small, small, Q, A.The 9 in LHO's hand will prevent the quick taking of 4 club tricks. What am I missing? What am I missing? not much this line actually leads to pretty much the same squeeze as the second, i think... I dunno. it was early when i wrote it B)
Hanoi5
Oops. I guess I played the hearts too early in my mind. Also, I thought the spade jack was the menace, not the 8 :)
