nikos59
The biggest penalty registered in Shangai (so far at least) was2300, in the Round 11 match between Canada and Poland. But Poland collected 2300 when South played 4H doubled and made one trick after the H8 lead. Incidentally, the Canadians managed to overcome this huge blow and they went on to win rather comfortably, 40 to 25 although they lost 18 imps here. Does anyone know (or can ask the players) how the auction went? TIANikos Sarantakos

bid_em_up
I suggest asking the Poles. Yea, 'cause the Canadians really don't want to discuss it!! :) :)
brianshark
Good defence to take 12 tricks. Declarer missed a club ruff at trick 2 though. :P
MickyB
NS play a multi and three-level xfer preempts, I suspect one of those was opened on the North cards.
jonottawa
I believe the auction went 2♦-X-4♥-X-P-P-P
nikos59
Thank you Jon for your suggestion; then, South thought 4H was pass/correctand North took it to mean "to play"? Anyway, yet another Multi disaster, this time against the perpetrators.
skjaeran
I believe the auction went 2♦-X-4♥-X-P-P-P Darn, is it really possible for a pair playing in the BB not having covered this in their agreements?
jonottawa
Their agreement of 2♦-P-4♥ was to play, not pass or correct. See note 11. http://www.ecatsbridge.com/documents/files...wicz-frukaz.pdf So while it looks at first blush like Piotr should have known to correct, Wally should have known better than to make such an ambiguous bid. helene_t
I believe it's common to play it as "to play" uncontested, but p/c after interference.
