jojo8
:) Hi All ... this is my first Topic . i want to discuss ..things about the BBO software. I think BBO will be more fun , if it is Ranked .. with a Lehman score ...I'm a TD .. when i make a tourney .. i feel like those winners need some kind of a prize ....and i think a Total rank is not bad...i was thinking of making a website and use in it a Lehman score system to rank all tournaments players. Please i want to know what do u think? Thanks all
inquiry
At least three websites rate players based upon their tournment result. I will not bother to point these out, as they have been covered before. The great thing about BBO, you can set up your own tournments and rating systems if that is what you want to do. Rating is not important to me... Ben
JRG
Rather than asking (all over again) what people think of Lehman, or any other ranking system, I recommend browsing the archives. There has been a great deal of discussion on this topic -- most of it strongly against ranking systems. The previous threads discussed the reasons why it is theortically interesting but realistically degrades a bridge playing site. Lots of references to the effects on OK Bridge, for example. bearmum
Rating systems for online bridge are (IMHO) totally silly :) I play here for FUN for meeting people from all over the world -- NOT to get some "score" which MOSTLY is a reflection of how ofter (rather than how WELL) you play
Free
Just dont start with stats, it will just attract more cheating and all fun will be gone. In every game where you have a ranking, there are lots of cheaters because they want to "seem good"!
nilbes
I am against the lehmann rating system too, that'S why I have not played at other sites and that's why I love BBO. But then there comes MY problem not knowing many players and not having a constant partner I frequently enter tournaments choosing my partners from their skill level and what is written on their profiles.....and what a dissapointment :( I really dont know why people write all those things on their profiles where they dont have the slightest idea of how those systems function and their skill levels are rarely what's been stated Would anybody have a solution for that? I am really getting desperate..........
inquiry
A couple of hints... You will have a better percentage chance of getting a fairly reasonable partner if you pick someone who says they are advanced rather than expert. Seems everyone and their dog list themselves as experts without any regard to their real ability. My experience is someone who realizes that while they are good they are not an expert and picks that is probably better than the vast majority of self proclaimed experts. Second ignore the system they list on their profile, but instead look to what else they list. Do they list a few simple things you would to see your partner play.. say 14,03, nmf, gb2NT, lebehsnol... if they list a few of your favorite things this has a couple nice advantages. You will be able to communicate with them, and more importantly, they at least have heard of these things if they list them. Third, kibitz a while and make friends with a few good players. It would be nice if they would play with you in events, but once you get a network of friends.. you can work through the seven degrees of freedom... ask your new friends if they know if so-and-so is a good player. Be aware that some people will never speak badly of other players (everyone is good or pretty good), and some players will never admit others are good. Finally, and most importantly, play here more... the more you come, the more you learn who is who... my friends list is so long I don't dare have it alert me when a friend logs on or I am getting alerts all day. jojo8
I was just thinking ... of making this lehman scoring system ( Carry Over )for tournaments player's only .. not for all .... So u play a tournament .. u'll have a Rank .. on BBO .. But .. it will be on a seperated Site ....
