VC 1N

Here's a 1N contract I commentated on last night. The auction was simple: 1 - 1N.

[hv=d=n&v=e&n=sj8xxhaq7xxdxcaxx&s=saqxhxxdq8xxxctxx]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv]

The defense started with the J lead to the Ace and the K shift was found. You lay off twice and win the 3rd.

Fortunately we are NV. This could be an expensive board at 100 per trick.

Its certainly 'convenient' to take a spade hook here, but is this the best line? What are your thoughts on this board? Are you thinking about making or just holding down the damage?

I am always agressive/optimist and would duck a heart now.

Maybe now I understand that talk about playing too much in weak fields :) How can the defense fail to take one heart, three clubs, and 3 diamonds after that? (I assume both followed to the 3 rounds of clubs.)

I would play a spade to the queen. I must be missing something, I don't really see an alternative, this seems best both for minimizing the damage and maximizing our small chance of making.
