inquiry
TaDa......... well done. Yes, this is the play. How can so many miss it? On the actual hand, playing 3♣ and going for a ♠ ruff is enough. No problems. If you want to be even more careful, how might you play (the general play, is exactly as AceofHearts suggested). Ben PS.. I wrote this without noticing your excellent idea of drawing one round of trumps. Anything else?

inquiry
When playing for a ♠ruff in dummy (after pitching a ♠ on the third round of ♣'s), there is two problems. If you play two rounds of trumps first, you will be stuck in dummy after ruffing the ♠. When you lead a ♦ if the opponent with the fourth ♣ can win the trick, he can give his partner a ♣ ruff. So as long as you keep communication between the hands you will be ok. You can do this a couple of ways. First, play on the black suits before touching trumps. Or ducking a ♦ early. The one thing you can't do is pull two rounds of trumps and then ruff a ♠ in dummy. Ben
Free
Yes, but if trumps are 4-1 and you play ♦ first, you might become short in ♥s I guess... So only 1 round of trumps has to do it.

You can't play this way to start off with, because you lack the entries I think. There winning and continuing a ♦ helps you execute this play. Trpltrbl
♠ ruff in dummy without pulling trump to much, being stuck in dummy can be painfull. Maybe some weird endplay in ♦ might work but I am opting for ♣ to break 4-3. Mike :D
