Mark as Unread?

When I pop onto BBO Forum periodically, I like to click "View New Posts" as my start, for the obvious reason that I've already read the old posts.

So, along comes an issue. I must leave BBO Forum for a spell. But, if I leave, all the "new posts" become "old posts," and I have to search a way that I dislike (active topics, or something like that).

I noticed ability to click "mark all posts read" or something like that. I don't need that. Who does, anyway?

But, is there a way to mark all or some as unread, to save the unread status? If not, wouldn't that be special?

Huh?

View new posts should show you any new posts (to any thread, existing or otherwise) since the last time you visited BBO forums.

So even though the "new" posts become "old" posts in a time sense, they are still "new" posts to you. You have not seen them or read them yet.

bid_em_up, if you logout of the forums, or even leave yourself idle for too long, it automatically marks all threads as having been read, whether you actually read them or not. When you login again later, you can no longer find the messages that you didn't have a chance to read the previous time.

BTW, I use "mark all posts read" all the time. I go into each forum that I'm interested in and look for the threads that have the icon indicating that they have new messages in them. Clicking on that icon takes you to the first new message. After I've viewed the threads that interest me, I mark all the messages in that forum as read, and go on to the next forum.

I've never used "View New Posts" because this will show lots of posts in threads and forums I have no interest in.

I am fairly certain that clicking on "View New Posts" (top Right of page) will show you all posts since your last visit.

Doing so produces the following:

Bridge Base Forums -> Posts since your last visit

with all post since the last time I came to BBO forum page.

So, if you (or Ken) were taking a leave of absence from the forums, upon your return, by clicking this, you should get all new posts, regardless of whether or not you had read part of a thread or not. BBO Forums do not "automatically" mark all posts as read dependent on idle time or logging out of forums, you are doing that yourself when you select "Mark All Posts As Read".

Probably you are going to say this a few more times in this thread, but while it is correct that the forums are supposed to work as you describe, the fact is that for many of us they often do not.

It happens both ways for me actually, sometimes all unread posts become read, sometimes it forgets that I read a number of posts and shows them as unread again.
