3S X p ?

LHOs style unknown to you but he has won a SENIORS world championship, however he plays multi and weak NT. What if this is the first board of the match? What if you are up 19 at half and have a slightly above average set so far (5th board of 12).

I'd not convert this on the first board of the match not knowing LHO's style. And 19 up and slightly above average in 2nd half I'd definitely not risk giving away a BIG score. So I'll bid 4 in both scenarios. Call me chicken if you like.

4, maybe I can bid 5 later.

That makes no sense. If partner rebids hearts you are playing in hearts. And if they bid 4 you are doubling. So you are never bidding clubs later anyway. It would make more sense on a lower level.

With a 2434 p would bid 4 over Gonzales' 4. OTOH 4 catters for p being able to bid 4 with a 1462 or such.

My first thought was 4 but p needs a lot to make 5m, and if he has that he might raise my 4 or 4.

At MP I would probably pass.
